What tires are folks using besides the issue bar grip?

since i drive mine more on the freeway than anywhere else, i am running 215/85R16 mesa a/p from big o tires. you can see them in some of the pics i've posted, they have a good tread for rain and fare pretty well off road, as long as the mud is not too deep or sloppy.

Im running nankang mudstars, 31 10.50 15's on aluminum alcoa wheels. They're very aggressive and surprisingly quiet. They rubbed a little in the front, but longer shocks and rear springs gave me enough lift to clear them. They still rub in the back though, but anyone one of these days im going to remount the rear shocks under the fender and drop the a-arm mounts down a few inches which will make enough room for them

I used Michelin XZL 7.5 x 16's on my last MUTT (the one that got stolen).

They worked great with no rubbing. They're radials so you'll have to get different rims. It's common to find them paired with Wolf Rims. They're a little hard to find in America, I'm still looking for a set for my current jeep with no luck; but they're easy to find in Europe. Here's a website for people in Europe that might want some: http://www.landrovercornwall.com/wheel_ ... _deal.html

Why would you need different rims for the radials?

They're tubeless tires. The rims that I had on my old jeep had the air stem attached.

With original rims the air stem is on the tubes. Wouldn't it be difficult to put tubeless tires on rims meant for tube tires?

Several of the guys here are running tubeless tires on our rims without problems. It's said to be a good idea to seal the rivets first. I'm about to try it.

A tubeless valve stem will mount in the wheel hole with no problem and I have never heard of any issues with leaks through the rivets. A good coat of paint would take care of any issues there.

In the past I had tubes in my tyres used for rally events with gravel roads. And the reason was not the rim or any rivet. I had not to change the rim whether to go with or without tubes. I used the the same rims for tyres on paved rally roads (w/o tubes). Just my mind.

The really good thing about bias tires and tubes is the ease of trail repair.

With radials, if you cut the side wall you're pretty much done.

With bias and tubes if you cut the side wall all you have to do is pop the tire off the rim a bit put a few layers of duct tape over the cut and put a new tube in, air it up and you're good to limp home.

I know this works because I've done on my first mutt. It's not an easy task to get the tire loose from the rim but it can be done especially if you've got a buddy.

I run tubeless 6 ply rated light truck radials on my M151 with no problems since 1997. The rivets on my rim are sealed for good measure.

True, but how many of us are going to be going places in a mutt that we will cut a sidewall?

We need a longer sample size than since '97. To me that just sounds like dumb luck given you've only been doing tubeless for 15 years
