I'm glad you posted this jeep...everyone here knows it is an encore or another brand...which is just an aftermarket body and uses origional parts to complete the jeep...Ok now I pose my question..if an MB or GPW WWII jeep uses a replacement body it may not be 100% origional but is still refered to as a WWII jeep however if a 151 series uses an Encore body it is said not to be a real 151..why? .. Over 99% of the parts used are origional 151 parts..I guess my question really is should this vehicle be refered to as a 151(with replacement body) or an Encore..alley cat..etc....??????? :? I would like to read a post from all with thoughts on this...

I think that these types of vehicles should be refered to by the name that they were branded by the manufacturer. So, an Encore is an Encore, an American Growler is an American Growler and so on...

If you want to say it is an Encore (M151 style vehicle) then that isn't misleading as to what it really is, as we have all seen people out there trying to pass these off as the real thing. There is enough missing on these bodies that it doesn't quite cut it as a detailed reproduction, for instance the curve on the front of the side panels, the inset front fenders for the signals etc. etc...

I wouldn't mind having an Encore or Growler for an everyday rough duty vehicle, but I would never think of it as a real M151A2 as I do with my two AM General M151A2s.

I call them "Growler M151" or "Encore M151" depending on the variant. I personally wouldn't want one but I see and understand some of the allure. That said to me the main reason for owning a former military vehicle is that it WAS a military vehicle. Not something made to look very similar to one.

I agree with Mr D

when called an M-151 it should be a former military vehicle

Nothing at all wrong with the other new body vehicles IMO, but not being former military its not a 151 but still is a jeep, no?

Kind of like a gal with silcon components. Still a gal and with some impressive improvements but.........not original as issued.

To me it's how accurate the replacement body or parts are. A bobbed duce is not a FMV but the remains of a FMV.

So if MD Juan or another manfacture made an accurate body would then it be a 151? You know most of the older origionals have extensive rust problems..so how many replacement panels can a person use befor it's not a 151? just food for thought... :?

I think that is a Titan, I prefer the Encore. That is not the one I just saw posted here or on the 503 half submerged in a pond is it? Sure looks like it.

I think I saw one with a fiberglass hood ??? and with just a little more work the front fenders could be made to look just like the origionals...

There are kits to make Pontiac Fiero's look like Ferrari's... but believe it or not they are still Fiero's.

I have driven Fiero's and Testarossa's, not real crazy about either. The Testarossa does have a little edge on speed and handling though.  The F40 now...................................
