Sidedraft to downdraft

Postby deputyvaughn » June 2nd, 2013, 1:16 pm

Does anyone know of a mod to change an M151 engine from the sidedraft Zenith carb to a downdraft. Is there an intake that will bolt straight up or will I have to fabricate an adapter. I once changed a MG Midget over by using a Datsun B210 intake (ports and spacing matched, just had to modify bolt pattern) and Datsun carb. The progressive 2 barrel made a major difference in performance.

I KNOW I answered this earlier???? There is no bolt on conversion, you will have to make an adapter. Mr Recovery modified a manifold to accept a different carb, he should chime in when he sees this. Just be aware that the exhaust manifold is the main limiting factor in the engines ability to breath.

I spent a ton of money modifying my M151A2 and honestly while the motor clearly looks better the performance really isn't there. Like Rick says the exhaust manifold really is the weak link...

I set 1 up with a Webber DOC32, it seems to run good just sitting in the tub, can't drive it at this point. My thought was to make it an easy swap back to stock. The last photo is a short Vid of it running, just click on it and it "should" play.
