Vic 1 install in a 151 questions, suggestions

Unread post by Cav Trooper » February 20th, 2019, 12:12 am

I'm looking for ideas, suggestions and or pics if anyone has mounted the Vic 1 intercom system in their Mutt. I have 4 stations and the control box with NOS headsets. I was thinking of installing one for the passenger in the front and 2 for the rear seat for my grandkids and daughter or wife in front to have fun with and not have to shout while I'm driving. The grandkids love walkie talkies and when I showed them the headsets, they can hardly wait to try them. I have a RT246 and RR442 installed on the right rear fender now with speakers mounted on the fender side under the radios. I also have the heater installed and a dash gun mount inboard next to the transmission.
Thanks

One of our members did this years ago. He no longer has a 151 but he does still watch the forums. He would be the one to talk to.

Larry, Interested to see how you make out.
Always wanted a two position intercom without a radio.
Just wanted comms with a passenger.
The Vic 1 makes sense butjust too much equipment.
Thinking of using an aircraft setup instead.

Look at motorcycle intercoms from Sena. Since a lot of people ride without helmets I am sure there are some setups for that. Just call one of the companies. This will be much cheaper than anything related to aircraft!

Good vid here

I used to scrounge up parts to set up my M220 tow tracks so the gunner and loader could hear what's happening. A lot of commanders would have a headset so they could hear and switch freqs in there 151s

i put this set in my M151A1, and had three stations. driver, passenger and back seat. i had the three sided steel enclosure for my RT524, and i mounted the VIC1 control box on that. i put the stations for the front two units on the slope of the rear wheel wells, and the station for the rear seat on the inner side of the left wheel well, since the radio was on the right, and my storage gear box sat on top of the left fender. the headsets enabled me to use the right frequency to broadcast on the 6 meter ham band, just by using the correct switch. if you want pics, send me your email address.

Salt6, I saw that video, very informative. Fil, I will let you know how I progress. It's too cold for old bones to work on the Mutt out in the garage yet. I've been in the planning stage for the Vic1 since fall. I have a friend who has a bunch of vic1 stuff, mostly cables so once I figure out where to mount the controls, I think I can scrounge up the right cable lengths to connect it all. Trying to hide/route the cables looks like one of the big challenges.
