Sponson Plates

Unread post by Floyd » December 15th, 2007, 1:20 pm

I have the sponson plates for the radios and the debate is weather to use them or not. Any Radio people have any ideas on if they work, do you really need them?

YES, use them. If you are going to put an MT1029 on top, or even the MT1989 for the R442, either way, make sure you use them. They distribute the weight of the radio stuff so you don't get cracks and stress issues from the aforementioned items. The RT524 or RT246 are somewhat heavy, and the constant weight will eventually give you headaches down the road. Use them. Even the R442 for no bigger than it is, needs that proper weight distribution back on that fender area. Besides, it's what's proper.
I have seen several MUTT's that didn't use them and all of them developed cracks in the area. I guess if you were never to drive it, and it was only for display, then you could get by without them. But if it's for display, then by rights it would have to have them to be correct.

another reason to use them is thats the only way to position them correctly so the rear seat will still fold up

You guys do me a favor so I dont screw this up........................can you take pics of where your plates are mounted on the jeep??? I have a RT-524 and a 442 that I am going to install on the passenger side. I dont want to mount them and then realise that either my seats wont go back or the rear seat will go in.

Thanks guys.

You all have been alot of help.
