M151A1C side antenna mount ?

Unread post by mightybaldone » February 21st, 2009, 9:04 pm

I've just got into the restoration of my first MV. My question is what antenna mount is used on the passenger side ( middle ). I can find no reference to it in any TM I've looked at. I have copies of shipping/issues for either the AN/VRC-53 or AN/GRC-160 radio units issued for M151A1Cs but the mounts are not listed. I have seen many restore pictures using a different mount but the pictures from the war are different.

Also was any other radio unit used beside the PRC-77 and the above. What is a good supply source.

Standard issue for the M151A1C was the VRC-47 radio set, which consisted of a RT-524 transceiver with the AS-1729/VRC Antenna set and MT-1029 mount, and the R-442 aux receiver with AB-15/VRC antenna and MT-1898 mount. It used the MK-1228 install kit which had the antenna brackets specific to the M151A1C. There was a blast guard for the LS-454/U speaker which had the part number 5820-00-832-7576. the H140B/U headset was used, and the cables needed were CX-4720/VRC 10ft, CX-4721/VRC 2 1/2 ft, CX-4722A/VRC 4ft, CG-1773B/U 4', and CG-1773B/U 9'. I couldn't find the part number for the radio shelf/antenna mount that came with the install kit. here's a pic of the installation.

Sorry I couldn't help more, those mounts turn up on ebay from time to time. Maybe someone else on here might have the part numbers...

Thanks for the info. Looks like another configuration to add to the list for the A1C.
