PRC-25

Unread post by Asesso » May 21st, 2010, 2:13 pm

I just purchased a working PRC-25 radio for my m151a1. Can someone tell me the correct mount to use and how the antenna is mounted to the vehicle. Also which is the correct antenna? A picture or drawing would be great. Is there an installation TM?
Thanks

The P in PRC means it's man portable. A vehicle mounted radio would be a VRC. On occasions a man portable radio is installed in a vehicle but the nomenclature changes. For example, the PRC-119 in use today is a VRC-90 in a vehicle. I will not make the claim that the PRC-25 wasn't installed in a vehicle (because someone will likely prove me wrong the moment I do) but the only way I have seen them installed is in a ruck strapped to the back of the driver's seat.

BTW, I have a PRC-25 sectional whip antenna that has been floating around my team room for years.

Check this thread for pics of the antenna mount.

I am not sure of the nomenclature but you will need

MT1029 tray

Power cord for the MT1029

Antenna cable for the radio

Matching unit cable. This cable tells the antenna base what frequency to match to.

AS-1729 Antenna set including two parts of one antenna and the base matching unit.

Sugar scoop antenna mount

M151 specific antenna mount (if you get a nos setup complete it will include the sugar scoop.)

M151 specific mounting tray for mounting the MT-1029 to the vehicle.

AM-2060. This is what mounts in the MT-1029 and allows the PRC25 to interface. It has controls for the matching unit and an external speaker.

The site blow has a lot of information about the setup.

http://www.prc68.com/I/AM2060.shtml

When the PRC-25 is mounted in a vehicle with the AM-2060 it is now considered a VRC-53

Below is from PRC-68.com

Vehicle VRC-53
When the PRC-25 is installed in the AM-2060 Audio Amplifier/Power Supply and connected to the AS-1729 Antenna System it's called a VRC-53 Radio System. The AM-2060 is set upon the MT-1029 Vehicle Mount. The MT-1029 supports use of the VIC-1 Vehicle Inter Communication system.

Here is a link to the PRC-68.com page on PRC-25.

http://www.prc68.com/I/PRC25.shtml

The manuals for the VRC-53 set are listed there. I think the -20 may have the installation instructions but you will have to check it out yourself. Google is your friend. I had a basic knowledge of the setup as I have most of the components but googled to get the specifics. Google VRC-53 and it will pull up a lot. I am not sure of the exact manual with installation instructions for the M151. Sorry.

I have the manual you need in pdf format. If you want to PM me with your email address I will send it to you. I would be happy to have it available to the forum if it is wanted for the manuals section.

Has anyone bothered to look at the manual section here. Most of the radio manuals you need can be found there.
