RC-292 Antenna Sections Needed

Unread post by Rainman » August 1st, 2010, 11:48 pm

I'm looking for lots of AB-21, 22, 23, and 24's as well as MS-116 and MS-117's to assemble an RC- 2-niner-2 ground plane antenna. I run across these at meets and rally's, but they turn up in other deals too. May take me awhile, but I'm starting my search here. Got any antenna sections you not using? Couple bucks a piece being offered :) here's the basics...

For 6 meter ham (51MHz) I need:
Vertical = AB-22/GR x 1, AB-24/GR x 1
Ground Plane = AB-22/GR x 3, AB-23/GR x 3, AB-24/GR x 3.

For CB band (27Mhz) I need:
Vertical = AB-21/GR x 1, AB-22/GR x 1, AB-24/GR x 1
Ground Plane = AB-21/GR x 6, AB-22/GR x 3, AB-23/GR x 3, AB-24/GR x 3.

It's lots and lots of pieces, like half dozen+ :( of each, whatcha got :?: ? ...

I don't have any of these sections but are you by any chance also a ham radio operator? Just curious because if so I am as well. I think I talked to you briefly down at Marengo a few weeks ago. You had the A2 if I recall. I was the one who had asked about halftracknut's MUTT that he sold down there.

Hey Snock,
We didn't get to talk too much as I remember, but no I never did the ticket. I was CB as a kid, went signal in the military, and mostly 10/11 mtr outband after that, till the evil internet stole my attention 18 yrs ago. I've got a great radio room complete with Yaesu and Kenwood general coverage HF equipment. Now I just bootleg low power on 6 meters to other bootleggers. I'm equipped for a field day complete with antenna launchers and generator, but I'm off the traceable "radio grid". :) My Yaesu 767AT has the 2 and 6 mtr modules all mode, so we have the technology. :D

Hey Dan,
I guess you do have a load of como stuff there. I saw a few other things I'd be interested in, but I should be good and try not to buy too much. Good looking AM-2060, and I need a leg to go from floor to my sponson plate for an RT-524. AB sections are thinner shorter sections, the MS ones are larger diameter, but still usable. The shock cord AT-271's bring a air buck on ebay, but I have plenty of those thank goodness. I'm looking for mabye 12 AB-21's, and 4 each of the AB-22's 23's and 24's

Rainman, oh, ok, yeah I was into CB at one point too. I generally use 49.00MHz on the RT-524A in my CUCV and on the PRC-77 as it's just a junk band. I've been thinking of setting up a translator station at the house that way I can use the VHF radios on any band. You going to be in Shiloh this month?

Hey Snook,
Will be at Shiloh, and will expound on the subject to answer HTN's questions in another thread. So you want your own operational retrans rig huh? That would be pretty cool. I have considered putting together a UHF station like the ones I worked in the Army, but the equipment is just too expensive, and there is no functional reason to do it. I worked AN/GRC-103 multi-channel with the big "fly swatter's and "bread slicer" reflector type antennas. We then connected to a 26 pair cable to hook up to the switchboard or the T.O.C. Here's a few pictures of those days...

and yes, my buddy here is working 2 field phones and 2 order wire handsets, with a cigarette in his mouth. Is that multitasking or what? These radio trailers were pulled by 1972 AMG M151's, and powered by 1.5 KW generators we strapped to the fenders.

I don't remember exactly if we used footman loops on the inner fender, but they were pair of about 6' long cotton web straps that held each generator in place. I don't see them in this picture though.

Looks like a hell of a lightning rod!
They are having some kind of exercises on Fort Dix next to me and they have some rather elaborate radio setups. If they are still there this weekend I will ask if I can take some pictures but I am guessing the answer is going to be no. I had one idiot tell me the new 2 1/2 ton trucks were secret and I could not look in one. The Sergeant at the the range told the guy he was an idiot and told me to go ahead and look. He was wanting to trade my mutt for it even up. :lol:

Rick
Exercises are still going on but way too much activity so I didn't even ask to take pictures. It is interesting because this is more than I have seen going on going all the way back to Panama.
