RT-524A feedback during transmit

Unread post by snock » September 29th, 2010, 11:23 pm

I have a RT-524A in my M151 that has just tonight has started having a problem of not muting/properly switching the audio during transmission. The radio still transmits audio fine but produces a squeal and amplifies voice when talking into the microphone. I assume there has to be a relay inside the unit somewhere that is part of the PTT circuit that controls the audio but I could be off base here. If anyone has had this problem before and knows what to do to fix it I would greatly appreciate the help. It would save a lot of time digging through the support manual.

Hey Snock,
I'm not familiar with it, but I'll make a phone call and report back.

Thanks Rainman.

I've verified it's not the mount. It's only when the radio is keyed up that it doesn't mute the audio. Squelch still works fine at muting the audio.

Hey Snock,
Just off the phone, and it doesn't sound good. 1st option may be to switch off the speaker on the radio. This would probably resolve the symptom, but not the actual problem. 2nd it's a strong possibility of the squelch module has gone bad which would need to be replaced. My tech says he has no parts currently, though ebay is often a good source. Tony Banks sees lots of radio parts, so he'd be a good one to contact, but like a bad penny, he'll turn up here sooner or later. :D Wish I had a quick fix for you, but sorry to say I don't.
