Beginning installation of a complete NOS ant. corner mount.
I got the complete NOS set, all the spacers, hardware, everything from Army Surplus Warehouse. (see http://g838.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4279 )
So I figured I'd start a new thread here to first, ask if anyone has assembly diagrams, and failing that, some good pictures, advice, or past experience.
I then plan to photodocument the installation for the ages.

The hardest part for me was drilling holes in my Mutt! I do strongly suggest that you use those inside corner brackets when you do your install the make a big difference in cutting down the body flexing.
Remember there is a lot of mass above the top of the fender and that mass will be wiggling and wobbling as a result of the tuner and scoop mount being up there at the other end of the bracket.

Just remember you will need to clear the channels on the inside of the fenders for the L-brackes.
You don't need the hockey stick or square plate. the other piece is only need if you mount the radio behind the driver.
Maek sure you keep the parts in the bags seprated in something.

Re: Beginning installation of a complete NOS ant. corner mount.
Item #3 is used for installing the MX2799 Antenna Matching Unit. You can see it in the pic below.
There was a website (Buzz's Military Radio Site: http://webs.lanset.com/buzz/index1.html) which had lots of info on MUTT radio installation.
Unfortunately, it closed down. In his website, there was a pic of the antenna corner mount being used as a fording exhaust bracket and item #3
served as an offset plate for mounting the sugar scoop mount.
As for item #2, somebody said it is a support used with the fording kit. I have that bracket too but I can't figure out how it was used
with the fording kit. It was also suggested that it might have been used for the early version but the support exhaust bracket for the
early ones are round tubes with flat ends. It would be nice if someone can provide a pic of it (Item #2) mounted in a MUTT.

OK, thanks for the info. Just down to one mystery part now, that would be #1 in the pic.
Anyone know what it is? Do I need it for the installation if I am mounting my radio on the passenger side?

Jeff, can you post a better photo of #1, it's hard to see it's shape in that photo.

Looks like it may be a section of "tophat" channel.Hard to tell from the pic.Tophat channel is used to protect the cables from abuse.

Is it the "right mounted sponson cable channel" in the pic?Crusader_22 wrote:OK, thanks for the info. Just down to one mystery part now, that would be #1 in the pic.

Re: Beginning installation of a complete NOS ant. corner mount.
OK! As promised, I took pics of the installation.
I have the measurements, etc., thanks to Dan, (MrRecovery), and I found the best method was to have my VERY understanding wife hold the corner mount while I shot some forest green paint (same as the truck) on the mount while it was in place, where I wanted it. The faded finish of the truck contrasted the new paint, and made for a super template for the pilot holes.
I first drilled the pilot holes, then the full size, which I sized by using the holes for the bits in the drill index - a little play, but not much at all.
You know, it hurt me inside to drill into that sponson. It had never been drilled before...but then I comforted myself by remembering that it was cut...
All went well. The backing plates had to go with the three holes to the rear of the truck, with star washers on the bolt heads, and nuts. It all went together well, with just a little wrangling.
The rest webt together without incident. I had to go to my local Ace Hardware to get hardware for the 6707 unit to the sugar scoop, but everything else was there, so far.
Next will be the sponson plate, 1029 mount, and cable channels. And then the PRC-25 radio in a VRC configuration.
