Radio With a 25 Amp Generator ???

Unread post by Elvis Presley » December 2nd, 2010, 10:07 pm

Just curious, could units with a 25 amp generator have had any radio equipment installed or would it require a larger generator / alternator??

Thanks!!!

Your fine. Normal radio gear will not over load it.

25 amps may not sound like a lot of power until you remember Ohm's Law. If you double the voltage, you halve the amperage. Thus a 24 volt generator with an output of 25 amps is producing the same amount of power as a 12 volt generator producing 50 amps.

I'm running a radio along with a R442 receiver without any problems on 25amps.

RT-524 plus R-442, doesn't need more than 15 Amp when the transceiver(RT524) transmit...

Yeah, the PRC-25/77 doesn't take a whole lot of current. Adding the external RF amplifier would maybe run 5-10A but I've never had a need for running more than low power on my RT-524.
