Unread post by Mr. Recovery » January 7th, 2011, 5:54 pm

I picked up a radio cover I thought was for the RT 524 but, it is about 3 1/2" too wide, is this a normal fit or, the wrong cover?? :?

I dont know about that OhioMG, during Desert Shield/Storm units had to put bags of ice on the VRC series radios to keep them from overheating.Thats why you dont see the covers much, the military found out they dont let the radios cool off.

I saw that also while I was using them 40 years ago.

Covers are good for covering radios when they are not in use... NOT while they are in use. :)

Hi Dave,

That mount was on the 524 when I picked it up about 3 years ago, I thought it came off a Hummer or, from some other Radio rack setup :? The work on my 63 is going slow and I almost lost it in that "PIT" you found yourself in, Chapter 7 let me keep 2 vehc's so I keep the Camaro and the Mutt and let the 07 Dodge truck go along with all other real property. I "was" thinking about joining you over there. Glad to hear that you may be coming back, 8) I'm sure someone on here will fix you up with a Mutt to work on! Keep us posted. 8)

I stand corrected. Mr recovery, many of Your OLD pics from the fatherland. Shows the early M151 rt524 with a HIGHER raised mount. If I am wrong so be it. Nice mount though. Arty Dan just picked up some of the early 1029 mounts .

Dave, I'll pull out those old photos and see if I can enlarge them enough to ID the mounts, the Radios in some of the photos may not be the 524 but then, I'm not very knowledgeable on the Radio stuff.
