The VIC1 is a great set up and I have rebuilt hundreds while working for a goverment contractor.I will attempt to answer a few questions and give an opinion.
First I have never seen a VIC1 in a M151 other than some FAVs that were modified for Special Forces recon units, that being said there were probably some that units did install them in.Never say never when dealing with an MV.
Sedond, you do not have to use a radio to have a VIC1, there is a power port on the AM1780 and settings to allow for intercom only use.
Third, If you wish to have intercommunication between 2 people you will need 2 control boxes even though you are only a few inches away.
The basic set up for a ANVIC1 intercom set is as follows,1) AM1780 Amplifier,2) C-2298 control box for each station you wish to have,3)CX4723 cables to run from each C-2298 control box back to the AM1780,4)H-161 headset with chest group for each C-2298 control set.
There are about 4 different amps, the straight AM1780,AM1780A,B,C models. The straight and A models were old school mechanical relays and a reel pain to work on,the B model did away with most of the mechanical parts and went to circuitry and ribbon cable,The C is a total different animal inside all to its self. As the evolution of these amps progressed over time and the requirements changed the guts had to change to keep up.Remember these units were interfaced with the VRC12 series radios and were put into service in the early 60s.All these units all though different in how they work do the same job and share the same footprint and acessories.
There are several more acessories I did not touch on here as most are specialty items such as C10456 control box for tank drivers station.

Ralph that pic you showed was a stock photo of mine when we sold sets on Ebay several years ago.We still have enough parts to build about 75 complete 4 station sets with all checked and guaranteed componets.Ours are not cheap but if you want a completeguaranteed working set let me know.Tony 1-859-749-5659

Looks like the driver of Gypsy Bandits is wired for comm. Maybe somebody out there knows the story behind the photo?

I used VIC 1 on 3/4 gun trucks, but not in Jeeps. I left one ear uncovered to listen for sniper fire.

Is this a pic of an A2 in Vietnam? Did anyone notice the rubber hose door trim? It should
be a strip of stainless steel
