Standard Freq?

Unread post by Emmett » August 20th, 2011, 4:29 pm

Any suggestions on what frequency we MV nuts should keep plugged in and use it while MVing?
Saw another MV driving the oppisite direction on the interstate the other day with whip antennas in the wind. Would have been nice to have a short chat.
I guess somewhere in the 6mtr ham band would work assuming everyone using it is a ham.

Regards,

Hey Emmett,
Much of the military crystal controlled equipment operated on 51.0 It falls into the 6 mtr band but operating on low pwr it's near impossible to ruffle lots of feathers on the hams. It's been the most common freq I've seen used for testing, on convoys, or MV rally nets.

For the 6 meter band the National simplex FM calling frequency is 52.525. If you're traveling or not tuned to a local repeater thats the channel to monitor for random call ups like people seeing you go by and noticing your antenna. For 2 meters its 146.52...

Hello Moose,
I work 6mtrs SSB and don't know of any 6mtr repeaters around here. I'm not a repeater guy anyway.

Insofar as me asking what a standard frequency for MV folks should be, most military VFO's are fixed and not varible.
On a RT 524 or R 442 you don't have the option of plugging in 52.525. Your cohices will be 52.45, 52.50 or 52.55.
I was thinking that we as a group could agree to a frequency to use that stays away from the standard band plans but OK for FM simplex.

Let me know what you think.

Regards,
ET

Whatever wavelength you use, just don't go and beat Dan Rather to the ground on a Manhattan street while screaming "What's the frequency Kenneth :?: "

around here with the mountains you can't talk to anyone without a repeater unless you're up on top of them lol... 52.50 would probably be good, with the short range of these sets we're not likely to bother anyone....and should be clear of repeater inputs down there...
