Wanted - MT1029 -to- MT1029 Cable

Unread post by Barrie » August 31st, 2013, 11:52 am

Radio cable wanted for my M151 A1

Can anyone help me with the 24volt power cable that connects one MT-1029 mount to another.

I have a MT-1029 mount with RT246 mounted on the rear wing behind the passenger seat. The MT-1029 mount is wired direct to the batteries for its 24 volt power supply.

I have just acquired an AM-2060 [PRC25/77 vehicle mount] on an MT-1029 mount which I want to fit on the rear wing behind the drivers seat.
I'm looking for the power cable that will connect my existing MT-1029 to my new MT-1029

Thanks in anticipation

What is the part number on the cable? I'm sure someone here has one. I have CX-7867A, CX-4722A, and CG--1773B/U. All in 6-foot lengths. Also have a 12338089-3. No clue what they go to anymore but if one is what you need I'm happy to tighten plus postage. Good luck no matter what.

it looks like the cable you need is CX-4721/VRC. looking at the cabling illustration for the VRC12 set in TM 11-5820-401-10-2, dated 23 nov 1982. the book says this cable was offered in 2,3,5,6,8 and 10 foot lengths. hope this helps.

Just for a better understanding. In the diagram Jim posted, the cable is marked as CX-4720/VRC.

Am I right that the CX-4720/VRC is used for a direct connect from the MT-1029 to the battery?
If you have a MT-1029 on the right and another one on the left fender, the MT-1029 on the left is directly connected to the battery and the MT-1029 on the right is using the CX-4721/VRC?

it would depend on what you want the mounts to do. if you want both radios to be able to be powered up individually, you would use the 4720 cable for both mounts going direct to the batteries. If you want to slave one mount to the other, requiring radio A to be on for Radio B to get power, you would daisy chain the mounts using the 4721 cable. Normally what you would see in a multiple radio jeep would be the transceiver on one side connected to the batteries with a 4720 (power) cable, with one or two aux receivers (r-442) powered from the transceiver by 4721 (interconnect) cables. The transceiver on the other side (retransmitter) would be connected to the batteries with a 4720 (power) cable. This would permit control of power for the three radios on one side by the power switch on the first transceiver, and the other transceiver to be used alone if desired. For use of the second radio as a retransmitter there are other cables and a control box needed as well.

Sorry for the delay in replying, after posting .....

Thank-you all for you contribution.
I 'think' that the cable I require is the CX4721, approximately 9 feet in length.

Having measured from my existing MT-1029 mount, behind the passenger seat, backwards along the rear wing, along the rear of the vehicle and then forward along the wing behind the drivers seat to where the second MT-1029 will be fitted, I've come up with 8ft 6 ins.

In anticipation .....

not to be picky, but i just want to be sure, you do realize that if you hook it up that way, you won't be able to turn on the second radio unless the first one is also turned on.

Jim,

Thanks for the reply...

I take it you would suggest I use a CX-4720 power cable, direct from the batteries to the second MT-1029 ?

barrie, in response to your measure then, you will need the 10 foot length, as the manual doesn't say this was produced in a 9 foot version. take care to connect the correct input and output posts when you attach the cable. they cannot be chosen at random, they are quite specific about that in the manual. if you decide to power each mount separately, then this step can be avoided.

as I said, it depends how you want to use the radios. Personally, I would just run a 4720 direct to the batteries, so i could use either radio at will without having to turn everything else on. The mount connection was usually used to remote control energize a command radio setup, such as a RT-246 with two R-442 aux receivers. Turning the RT on would also turn on the receivers. With two large radios i would want to just turn on either one or both as needed.

Jim et al,

Thanks again for all the replies.

Anyone got a CX-4720 I can buy or know where I can get hold of one ?
