RT-524 X-Mode

Unread post by richard » September 27th, 2013, 1:10 pm

While installing my RT-524 today, I found this behind the cap of the X-Mode connector. Any ideas? I think I read somewhere in the TM that there is a X-Mode switch inside of the RT.

As far as I remember that x-mode connector is where you would connect a digital scrambler. If not used, the cap routes the signals out of the transmitter and back into it. You have accidentially disassembled that x-mode cap.

Hello Horst, I would say I was inquiring, looking behind the cap. The cap is still there and already back on the connector.

Found the following information on the PRC.COM site. I think the description of the cap jumpers makes it clearer what I found.

X-Mode
The X-mode connector on the VRC-12 series radios is NOT the same mechanically as the POWER connector on the PRC-77. The jumper cap must be in place for plain text operation since it has 3 jumpers.
Pin Function
A X-mode in (Rx)
B nc
C X-Mode Out (Rx)
D 150 Hz Tone in
E X-mode in (Tx)
F Ground
G X-mode out (Tx)
H nc
J 150 Hz Tone out
K PTT

Cap jumpers:
A to C
D to J
E to G

From the TM 11-5820-401-10-1 Operator's Manual:

An X-mode jack is provided for connecting the RT to additional equipment for speech-secure transmission. When this is the case, an X-mode switch inside the RT must be set to X-mode. When secure equipment is not provided, the X-mode plug must be placed on the X-mode jack.
