WHICH ANTENNAE IS THIS? WHICH RADIO USED?

Unread post by HILLBILLY-06 » October 31st, 2013, 10:39 am

I got this this antennae with my M151 when I bought it, but I have no mount, or radio equipment yet. I would like to get a descent looking Non working RT-524 or even an old non working back pack radio or something someday, just for display only, but I don't know which antennae this is, or if it would work for what I need on a display unit? Anybody know what it is?? It appears to be brand new?

looks like the mast from a as-3900 antenna which was used on humvees and such with sincgars radios.

Well heck, I don't think I need a humvee radio in my Mutt, I guess I will hold on to the antennae until I can swap it or something for stuff I do need. I see now why he left it laying in there...LOL figures it would be the wrong one...

here's the mutt antenna info

5. Antenna
either AS-1729/VRC or AT-912/VRC for the Tranceivers and AB-15/GR or AB-558/GR for the Aux Receiver.
The AS-1729/VRC Antenna consists of the MX-6707 base, AS-1730 lower whip section and the AT-1095 Upper whip section, a tip ball, and tiedown. It mounts on the 3 piece corner antenna mount (sugar scoop).
The AT-912/VRC antenna was an early version with a large rectangular matching unit. It consisted of MX-2799 matching unit, AS-719 Antenna Base, AT-1096 Lower whip section, AT-1095 upper whip section, Tip Ball, and Tiedown.
The AB-15/GR Antenna consisted of a AB-15 base (2 piece ball insulator), MS-116A, MS-117A, and MS-118A whip sections, UG-273 cable adapter, SC-DL-48528 side mount bracket, and SC-C-446109 brush guard. the AB-558/GR was for mounting on the sugar scoop bracket like the as-1729, and used the same whip sections as the AB-15.

Wow, that's a lot of info... Thanks...
I hope to find a cheap display unit someday (non working) for now, just for looks, but eventually maybe next year, after I paint my mutt, I may look around for a working radio. I got a friend of mine that's got his own ham radio club and stuff, he may even be able to get me tested/ checked out to actually use one, but I haven't actually asked him that yet. He can repair one, over time, he just takes longer than most folks...LOL
I did see that he finally finished repairing his repeater that he had in the shop. He wants me to climb his towers and do some stuff to his antennae's, but man that them towers sure are tall when you look at them from the ground. I been up his 60 footer before, but these rented ones are way taller. I aint sure if I got the guts to go up there and take stuff apart and then drag a line up with new stuff. It sounds like more than I can handle, but I may think about it if the price is right...LOL

hillbilly 06, getting used to working at heights is not too bad. couple of things to keep in mind---make sure you have a very high quality harness---make sure you are tied off to solid points at all times---trust your equipment---until you are accustomed to the height, it may help you to look at the horizon , instead of looking down---take some training on good rigging techniques, and be sure you understand it. put safety lines on your tools, so you don't drop them and have to go all the way back down to get them. take everything with you the first time up, by putting it all in a bucket, attaching a line to it, and then clip the line to your harness. once you're up there, and tied off, haul up the bucket with your gear in it. cordon off a safety zone at the base of the tower with red caution tape, and have an observer outside the drop zone, in case you need something. before you know it, you'll be engrossed in what you're doing, and the nerves will go away.
at that point you can say to yourself, "man i'm glad i'm not 20 floors up in a swing stage setting 400 pound windows".

I just look at what I am doing and don't pay attention to the height until I am done, then I take in the views. Here is a video to get you acclimated.

I got a new rule I just adopted after watching that video...."Ya'll can count on me to stand down there with that roll of red tape" ...There's no way I will ever climb that, I couldn't even survive the elevator ride that far up.... OMG, now I'm gonna have nightmares for years on the count of seeing that.... Year's and year's and year's.... Oh man, no way no how.... OMG
