WTB: Radio for dummy

Unread post by TrueXena » August 12th, 2008, 7:04 pm

No, not a radio for the hubby! LOL

I'm wanting to buy a non-working radio shell. Just something that looks like a real radio, so I can put my own civilian radio/cd player into it. It doesn't even have to look pretty. Can be beat to hell and back and I wont mind. Knobs and dials are even optional. I'd prefer a PRC 25 or PRC 77, but if you've got something else, I'll at least take a look at it and see if I want it instead.

If you got anything that might work for me, let me know.

it might be more than what you want, but Rapco has demilled RT-524's available....

I just went though the "radios" section as well as the entire "index" at Rapco. All I found was antenna's, brackets for antenna's, cables, brush guards, and the like. Not one radio, demilled or otherwise. :(

Thanks tbanks, but I think I'm going to pass on that offer. I'm really just wanting a gutted PRC 25 or 77, the RT 524 would be more something the hubby would want (working). But I'll see ya at Hallsville anyway. ;)

Thats where I got mine, a Rt246.... It was missing 4 parts, I found them and now have a working radio.... maybe he sold them all though. Murphy's Surplus http://www.murphyjunk.bizland.com/index.html has working PRC-77's for $300. maybe they have some dead ones that would be cheaper...

I went through all the stuff listed on Murphy's Surplus website last week. They are all working (good condition/working) radios, therefore have the 'working price' attached. I do understand that these things are not cheap, even gutted, but I'm not wanting to spend 'working price' either.

I was just suggesting that you call them, they a good bunch to work with, and none of these places list everything they have online. I called them looking for a cable once, they didn't have it, but they had the connectors and wire so they made me up one.... just a thought you know, that they might have a dead one they pulled parts out of in their junk pile or something...

I have a dead PRC-10, if that would work. I think I have a handset to go with it.

Hey TX, if your not in a hurry for that radio from kbojyl I will be stoping by to drop off hardtop kits to him and picking up a radio for myself on my way out to Colorado next month, I have not set a date as yet but I could pick up yours and drop it off on the return trip, I will be running I-70 from Baltimore Md. to Limon Col; just a thought, would save you on shipping. :)

I'm in no hurry at all. If you don't mind doing that, I'd appreciate it. Just let me know when to meet up with ya at the truck stop off I-70.

Hey TX were you planning on putting the radio in the jeep where the working radio is now, or just as a stand alone? The reason I ask is that the PRC 10 will not fit where the PRC25 mounts.

The PRC10 was a tubed radio from the 50's just for FYI....Make sure you get the big battery box to go with it...this way you can power it.
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....
