Hi Jim.

I have that setup here, its a Piranha, its waiting for a decent A2 to come thru the door.

You would not believe what it weighs and it completely fills the back of a 151 !

It sure would break a lot of stuff going down the road with that deployed. Amazing how far we have come in just a few years. from that to satellite in what? 30-40 years or less.

Hi Ray.

Not sure about that, but it burnt all the paint off my dummy load when I finished restoring it and did a final tx test :(

It transmits about 1kw erp all over the military lower VHF band and has a real neat looking CRT panoramic receiver for the operator.

I have another antenna here that was used with the An/tlq17 in the M151, it kinda looks like the one in the picture but is a little taller and has a gearbox intergrated into the front bumper mount on the passenger side. A shaft goes from the gearbox along where the shovel would be and it has a big wheel on the end that allows the passenger to rotate the antenna from inside the m151.

Its amazing how many of these exotic 151 variations there were and how few of them remain.

Hey Mark,

For the KW you need a "cantenna" dummy load. What were you thinking? :D Got one here if you ever need it.

Saw one of those on ebay 6 or 8 months ago. Didn't sell as I remember.

Hi.

The load I was using was ok it was the operator (me) that was the problem :)

I used an active duct fan cooled dummy load that would easily handle the power, problem was I had a brain f*** and did not power up the fan, was fine on the low power setting but it was when I checked the hi power output that I smelt the paint vaporizing :)

Hey Mark,

Back in signal school at Ft Gordon, they called that "needing to adjust the operator head space" :D

The antenna is a log perriodic and is a great multiband antenna. I've used one on field day (ham radio emergency event) about 10 years ago...it was fun!
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....

Its a real good antenna but the setup and teardown is a real pain though.

They even made a reinforced hood for the 151 so the operators could stand on it to lower and raise the mast, it has additional stiffeners and ribs to make it more rigid.
