RT-524 transmitting troubles

Unread post by Doug Black » November 6th, 2015, 11:21 pm

Any radio experts out there? My RT-524 won't transmit anymore unless the top cover is off. Everything inside looks fine. The radio used to work great. Is the cover grounding to the transmitter or something?

Try cleaning the fan area. Might be over heating.

I cleaned the fan and the heat channels. They weren't too bad. The radio works fine with the top lid off. As soon as the lid makes contact I get static. If I screw the lid down I can't transmit at all.

I would look at the wiring to see if the lid is pushing anything. You might try a test with a sheet of something flat and see if that causes the same symptoms. Of course this is all from a non commo guy.

Your high voltage module might be arcing or shorting out. I had this issue on a 524 I repaired for a guy where it worked great with the lid off and stopped when the lid was put back on. Cut some insulating material out and sandwich it over the A9000 module and see if that fixes it.

I sent my RT-524 and R-422 on a vacation trip to Texas. They came back working great. Shipping was a bear.

Ditto on Steve Haney. He knows his stuff and his prices are reasonable. He does a great job. He got my RT-524 and VIC-1 running for my deuce.
