How does one carry a Dragon?

Unread post by m3a1 » September 10th, 2016, 9:15 am

Serious question and I'm really not interested in speculative answers.

How would a Dragon missile launcher have been transported in a vehicle (specifically our trucks) in forward areas?

Would they have had a specific mount, perhaps like the method for carrying the TOW tubes?

This doesn't seem to be the type of item one just chucks in the back to be allowed to rattle around.

Cheers,
TJ

Apparently this was not a very popular weapon and not widely used. It appears to have been just as you said and stowed in the vehicle.

The M47 Dragon had no specific mount for vehicle transportation, other than a little-used modification on the M113-series APC. This resulted in the development of the M175 mount, although trying to find any decent images of the installed mount, other than line drawings, is challenging. This placed a ready-to-use Dragon to the right of the TC cupola, oriented in the direction as the .50 cal MG mount. With the usual travel mode of keeping the cargo hatch open and heads out for the Squad members, using this weapon on the fly would have presented more danger than most anything it would have been facing.
