Stove-top parkerizing?

Unread post by Bill, Idaho » December 17th, 2007, 9:31 pm

I used to be a real live gunsmith years ago, and got pretty good at bluing. However, I am wanting to try that stove-top parkerizing I have seen offered. Anyone ever play with this stuff, and how good were the results?

a friend of mine that is a gunsmith refinished the barrel of my riot gun that way. It was looking pretty rough from years of riding in the rack of my patrol car so we didn't think blueing was gonna look good. He used a real dark grey that was almost black, came out looking pretty good.

Actually, I am more concerned about stinkin' up the house. I have seen the finished product and like the quality. My wife might not like the secondary results.

It is not "secondary results". It is "collateral effect". Sort of like collateral damage but safer.
