How are the two different? Bigger bottom cup for the stock or what?

The 2 style mounts, M16 and M14 UPPER sections are the SAME.

The LOWER SECTION: M14 are OVAL SHAPED, like a narrow egg! Shaped to conform to the shape of the M14 Butt stock.
M14: BASE IS COATED IN RUBBER-protects the wood!
M16: RECTANGULAR shape, BARE metal painted,NOT RUBBER COATED.

EACH style will accomadate BOTH weapons. IF you own an A2, then you use the M16 style. If you own a straight M151 or early M151a1 then the M14 style, would be the "CORRECT" type.
