That's one I'll have to dream about for a while. They're still giving us baby bullets here.

I built an AR chambered for .45 ACP. Of all the AR's I own (20+), that one is one of the most fun to shoot. I had to make my own magazines out of Sten Gun mags. That was a chore, I think it took me a couple of weeks to re-manufacture 6 mags. But in the end, well worth it.
Olympic Arms made the upper, I don't know if they still offer it. There have been questions about the quality control there, but mine runs like a sewing machine.
A very loud sewing machine.

Mine isn't, but I got the idea from a friend that has one that is Class 3. I was going to build an integral can under the handguard, so at first glance it looks like a relatively plain-jane AR, until all you hear is the brass hitting the ground and the thumps downrange.

Nice gun 8) I wish they would have shown a 5.56 NATO and .458 SOCOM side by side loaded shell comparison to give a good idea of what the cartridge looks like. I like how it uses standard magazines. Uppers that shoot pistol calibers have been around for quite a while. Most have the problem Bill mentioned, they don't feed reliably. This is because they usually use a magazine well insert and a magazine that was not originally made to function in an AR platform. There are some magazines out there that don't require a mag well insert, but they are kind of funny looking and probably wouldn't be easy to change under less than ideal circumstances. The only other option is buying a dedicated gun with the mag well sized for the caliber and magazine one intends to shoot.
