During the first part of Nam did we use the 1919a4 on the M151?
Looking for photos?
Putting a display M151 and would like to use my 1919 if it was used.

Maybe on the occasional marine mutt. Anything else would orobably ARVN.

The M60 GPMG was actually introduced before the M151 (about a year or two). So most M151s would not have had an M1919 mounted. However, I also ran into a VN Vet who while over there, scrounged an M1917A1 water cooled off of the ARVNs so I guess anything's posible.

What branch of service are you portraying? The USMC did use a lot of gear long after the Army went to something newer. A friend of mine served in the Marines over in RVN back in '70 and he showed me a photo of him (over there) sitting behind an M1919A4 mounted on the M2 tripod (could have been a converted M37?). That's pretty late in the game.

I also forgot to mention that there is a "file" photo of an XM151 sporting an M1919 in Fred Chrisom's(sp?) book.

Just for he sake of true military history, that's not "why they called them mutts" at all. MUTT was a term that came along later. What did they call the jeeps you drove back in WW2 seabee, horseless carriages?

Being a computer caveman, I don't have either the gear or know how to down load a photo here and post it on the web. But the book that features images of an XM151 armed with an M1919 is David Doyle's book "Standard catalog of U.S. Military vehicles 2nd edition" the pictures are on page 37 & 39.

I thought the above images were also in Fred W. Crismon's book "U.S. Military wheeled vehicles" but couldn't find them in there.

Rainman....Rainman....Rainman.....what are we going to do with you. MUTT as in Military Utility Tactical Truck....of course you knew this, but your memory is so short, we have to keep reminding you. MUTT was used , not official, but a good quick slang , and it did refer to the combination of non descrip attachments or " not complete "in outfitting the vehicle according to military requirements. At lease we outfitted what we had the way we wanted, as long as it ran. ( which is another story ). And Rainman.....Civil War ???? In which country ????? Take a nap !!!!! Seabee

I called it a Jeep as did every one else. Hell, I didn't know it was a MUTT until I got mine!

Same as Rick...we called them Jeeps. Several guys have called mine an "M151", and after talking with them, discovered they drove them back in the day.
