RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) will be reissued the Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun. The weapons have been altered to be semi-automatic.

A semi auto (only) MP5 was known as the H&K 94. It had a 16" barrel to conform with US laws. I don't see what the hub bub is all about, LEOs around here have been carrying variants of the AR15 family of rifles (mostly CAR-15s) in their crusiers for years. They use them, along with the more traditional M870 riot guns. A lot of times around here, you are your own back up..... :?

9mm carbines are a lot of fun to shoot. While I don't have a HK, I do have a Marlin Camp 9. No recoil, and hits a lot harder than a .22 :D

I want an MP5, but there's so many other guns I want before it.

I've shot a lot of MP5s and they are very nice weapons. I can see the logic of issuing something with more punch then a pistol, better accuracy then a shot gun and less (over) penatration then an assault rifle. Just hope they receive the proper training needed to use such weapons reguardless of full or semi auto.

The MP5 is selective-fire as issued. I used to train police officers on this weapon. It is easy to control on full-auto. I have seen officers keep a full 30-round magazine, myself included, in a 2" circle at 7 yards on automatic. I guess they don't trust their officers up north.
