a very open question, as it depends on use.
In my case:
To protect the home, the Taurus Judge is hard to beat- Basically its an extremely short barrel .410 shotgun in 5 shot revolver form.
Load light shot in the first two, them medium in the next two and perhaps slug in the last one. It is small enough for carry.
details on this line of .410 are here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurus_Judge

In general I like the 1911a1 series, just feels right and I have the Colt Combat Commander in ss .45 model for carry. It has a shorter barrel/frame than the A1
I usually have bird shot in the first two positions then ball for the rest. I

I also like the .38 Special revolver, I carried one in combat for a year flying gunships and just have a close personal relationship with it. Plus a revolver doesn't leave any evidence at the scene.

Of course my best over all favorite is the GE Minigun- 4,000 rounds a minute. Hard to beat that but it is hard to conceal.

Would not surprise me if it was but you would need a trailer to haul the ammo needed! Plus the driver would be up to his neck in hot brass in about 15 seconds!

There is a photo of an M151A1 with a mini gun mounted in the front passenger's position. On the M4 pedistal mount is a "Honeywell" hand cranked 40mm grenade launcher. The image can be found in "The Vietnam Order of Battle" by Shelby L.Stanton This work was published by Galahad books and the image is on page 303.

Thank you Matt, I don’t have time to dig but I vaguely remember seeing a mini mounted on a 151 in the Japanese mag “The Jeep Farewell M151 part one”.

This was a post I made a while back for that very reason. Not much interest in the thread but they were used none the less.

Top 10 reasons a gun is better than a woman.

#10 You can trade an old .45 for a new .22 and even get money back!

#9 You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you're on the
road.

#8 If you admire a friend's gun and tell him so, he will probably
let you try it out a few times.

#7 Your primary gun doesn't mind if you keep another gun for a backup.

#6 Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.

#5 A gun doesn't take up a lot of closet space.

#4 Guns function normally every day of the month.

#3 A gun doesn't ask , "Do these new grips make me look fat?"

#2 A gun doesn't mind if you go to sleep after you use it.

And the number one reason a gun is better than a woman.

#1 YOU CAN BUY A SILENCER FOR A GUN

Plus the mini gun uses special linked ammo, not usually available except at airfield rearm points.

BUT I do have a new favorite weapon, it is now in combat in the field
Cost? $278,000 per, and that does not include the ammo. Value? Priceless.

Nice one Top. If the British had had that toy in their skirmishes the Khyber Pass would be a different place today. I like it.

Not to mention what the report of that thing opening up would have been like for the driver in his position....
