My 1972 M151A2

Unread post by Dietz1 » May 10th, 2016, 5:31 pm

I'm not new to the forum, but just slow in getting photos posted. First, let me thank all of the gurus and all others who keep this forum going and help everyone keep their vehicles running. I've had this vehicle for two years, and it has become a fulfilling hobby.

To date, besides general maintenance, I have done the following:

- Installed battery isolation switch
- Changed the front bumper to a USMC bumper
- Purchased and installed gun mount and demilled M60
- Purchased M16A1 and installed rack
- Purchased PRC-25 radio
- Cleaned out my foot locker and sea bag for displayed deuce-gear (trying not to make it a clown car, but the kids love it).
- Converted oil-bath air filter to paper cartridge filter
- Stenciled markings (I understand that the original USMC numbering should be 6 digits, but anyone who was in the Corps in the mid to late 60's will understand why I have 7).

I'm not happy with the color, but it was repainted just before I purchased it. I eventually plan on repainting it the proper USMC forest green (34052).

Hope to see some of you in Findlay, OH on the 21st, weather permitting.

Last, but not least, at least I have the fuel can positioned correctly!

do we still run the tradition and pick on the small details? Specifically if it is a nice one like this?

I see what you are looking at but I believe it has been modified to prevent problems. I do see one minor issue in the engine compartment also. He did mention the can so he is aware of our reputation.  I for one am going to let it slide since it is such a nice representation, very well done.

Excellent I was looking for a Marine unit in which to get ideas for setting up & signage,
I would like to learn where the hood numbers come from. right now I just have my applied Vin #'s on the hood under the US ARMY as it is set up as a 325 Combat Engineers MUTT. I already have the Marine Corp. Bumper, I will post pics as soon as I remember how

I know everyone would like to see more of your truck. Surely you'll have it out on Memorial Day, right?

The 782 gear is correct for 60's--70's and earlier, as that's what I had in early 70's. The gear went back to 1941

My experience.....From 70 to 76, if you were with the FMF you were issued a M-16 and Alice pack. If you were with the Non-FMF, you were issued the M-14 and 782 gear.
