wow, that is really an interesting piece of equipment, I would love to know what it exactly did back in the day. Engine looks to me being an older forklift engine.

Apart from some interesting facts however, I do agree with an earlier statement, this is scrap metal, nothing more.

Yup. In the final analysis, its value may only be as a parts donor vehicle, or as a simple automotive curiosity that is to be admired from afar, or up close (but only after a battery of tetanus shots).

I would not suggest that they actually scrap it but rather, put a realistic scrap price on it and see if anyone on this site is near enough to come haul it off because the expense of hauling it off is going to be the deal breaker.

Well, Rick. Between that crushed one you're always flashing the pic of, and this one, you might be able to put something together!

Being new here, you all wouldn't know my attitude on many things old and decrepit. My business is AutoArcheologist and my tag line is Finder of Lost Automotive Souls. I assist people in selling their classic cars, old heaps, stalled projects and even beautiful show cars that may have gone too long unused. I would much rather see a car brought back to life or at least used for parts to keep another one on the road than simply scrap it for it's weight in steel.

Of course, part of being any kind of archeologist is delving into the history of an item, in my case particular vehicles and finding facts, researching and proving positive or false, claims made by an owner or past owner, etc.

The case with this M151 (and the reason I asked if it indeed was, as I have seen many different variants with different designations) is that the owner of this towing company has had this "jeep" in the back lot for nearly 40 years. His Dad purchased and used to putter around the grounds with it, but most of his memories are of it just sitting. His Dad claimed it was an all original " army jeep" and was used this way in the armed forces. I can't simply take what he says as gospel and present it to my clients as such, I need to know and/or get very similar info from more than one source to act on a statement. I will continue to dig deeper and when I'm satisfied with my findings and feel that I can present her realistically, I will.

Again, thank you all for your input and information.

BTW... any of you guys recommend a site for information on deuce and halfs?? This guy has two.. one an REO tow rig and another a GMC flat bed.

Thanx!

Talk soon,
Dave Brill

For the deuce and a half you want to go to Steel Soldiers, https://www.steelsoldiers.com/ . As far as the mutt the guy to talk to that has every piece of paper ever printed on them you want to talk to Ken the Mutt guru. I will put his info below and you can send him an e-mail. Believe me, we may joke around a lot but we save a lot more of these things than we scrap them.

Here is a perfect example, this guy, whose name is Guy, started manufacturing and selling M-151 body parts to support his habit.

And here is mine that I still need to completely do the other side on. At least NOW I have Guy's body panels to work with instead of building side panels from scratch!

We joke around a lot but we are pretty serious about saving old vehicles. Here is Ken the Muttguru's information. If that vehicle has any military history Ken will know about it.

Yeah, to tell you the truth, it would be a very interesting rig to bring back to reality just as-is. Somebody was clever enough to manage to put that monster together which, if nothing else, is a tip of a hat to the guy who figured it all out. Military or not, it's pretty darned cool, if you ask me.
