Making progress, photo worthy..
Finally making progress and have some photos to share. Still plenty of work left to do before summer.

Original hood number.
A year and 1/2 later....
OK. So I know that you are taking note of the 7 slat grill. Don't worry- this was for my deep love for the Jeep product and my need to weld and fab. I have an Original ready to insert for the parades this year. I got the idea and was inspired from you guys' friend "HummerKiller" a few years back! Note the 31" tires? Those are Marine Corps issue! MY Mutt was on the verge of getting turned into the FAV before it was left in the woods.
Motor as it looks today.

Get the MUTT grill back on man. You are insulting it.

Re: Making progress, photo worthy..
You called it. The heater was the worst of the entire truck. Completely rusted out.
Im sort of attached to the OD green concept and not the desert look. My take on the color is that the factory produced it as green or woodland. The Desert Storm era is what brought about the desert camo. I have concidered completing its transformation in to the FAV but hate to weld all those weird fab's all over it (e.g., pluming pipe rollcage, brush guard, fender baskets, etc.)...although I do like the flat black look of a FAV. Non-the-less, my goal is to get it green with the traditional yellow hood markings.
Sorry SEABEE62 - all remaining are not worth getting the Base to sign them over. Their frames are cancer'ed through or cannibalized completly. hey SEABEE62, Im originally from SEMO too! Just south of Poplar Bluff. A place called Doniphan.

Can you post closeups of your grill work, looks great in the first shot. Purists will scoff, but I believe the original M151 prototype had that same grill

Here is a shot of my two grills. Nothing special done to the 7 slat. I had an third grill and a day off from work one day...so I got creative. I was just playing around with It and it turned out pretty good. Wish I would have taken it more seriously in the end because It would have been a lot better. The grill was rusty so it was hard to weld. I used bondo to smooth out some of the uneven welds.....Like I said nothing special and not my best work.
No disrespect to the MUTT folks! Just some practice metal work.
Enjoy,
Joe

gpready,
Great shot of the poor girl sitting there in despair. You look to be doing a great service to her. I find it ballsy on your part to be restoring her in base housing. My hats off to you but aren't you alittle intimidated by the fact that you posses an outlaw vehicle, on base of all places, and big brother came drop on by and confiscate it?

No worries. She’s state titled, SF97’ed and DRMO documented released....Heck, big bro turned her over to me !Cobra5 wrote:gpready,

It’s the privatized housing folks that worry me! I simple tell them that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”! I’m fortunate to be able to keep her here. My kids and all the neighbors’ kids love it. Well, they love all my Jeeps in the driveway! Believe it or not, I've even thought of donating her to Base MotorT or Base Auto Hobby shop for display once accurate enough to do so.
I’m a true believer that at this point; big brother sees "no harm and no foul" on the civilian restoration of the M151. All in all, I know firsthand that our big brother has better things to worry about than the MUTT or one of us filing suit about a rollover or something. My opinion. Now the guy at CampPen trying to sell a HMMWV that's a different story.

Re: Making progress, photo worthy..
I would not brag about the SF97 since none were ever issued for M151's. (legally) I have heard of others who have them but I have been told they were never issued.
There may have been some for A1's but I believe the demill order was in full effect for the A2 era.

I'm sure there's more to the story about the HMMWV from Pendleton. I just threw that in as an example. Anyway great job can't wait to se your finished vehicle. Hell I can't wait o see mine get finished
