Re: My New MUTT !!
Thanks to the guru I figured out this picture thing. Yes this is the one for $2500.00 - I put down some cash and traded one of my Garands for it. Batteries charged and the carb needle and seat cleaned and we've been driving it ever since. The rear rail is a bit rusty, but I have a contact in Denmark that makes them new. Even makes the little gusset brackets etc.. Not sure if I'll go that way, since there are quite a few demils around that would do just fine.

Re: My New MUTT !!
I see a nice A2 just north of Michigan Ave on Bellville road (I think it's now in the garage). Been wanting to stop to talk shop, but have not had the time just yet... Looks like a convoy controller - cool blue light and all !!

Re: My New MUTT !!
Welcome to G838
Looks like you have an A1 with A2 windshield, A2 grill, and A2 steering wheel. The gas can holder on the back is not necessary if the original footman loops are there. The M151 carried the jerry can directly on top of the rear bumperette. You'll like the A2 windshield with it's electric wipers if you drive it in rain or snow much. The vacuum wipers on the A1 work, but like all vacuum wiper systems, they don't work the best. Do you have any pictures of the bottom.

Re: My New MUTT !!
Thanks SeaBee62 !!
Raymond - The rear rail is a bit rusty - but should not be a big deal - have welder will travel!!
The unit was welded back together at some point - and now has a second life after a life changing de-mil process. Drives pretty decent for being put back together. I do plan on reviewing all the rewelded areas and give them another pass if they seem flimsy. Just enjoying it right now. Thanks for the A1 info by the way - I'll start trying to get her back to original one of these days. Just curious about the gas can on the bumperette - did it have some sort of special attaching stuff to keep in on there??
Thanks again!

Re: My New MUTT !!
Here's the back of my A1. I'm missing part of the vertical strap and buckle but I logged about 1000 miles on mine since getting it and the gas can is still there.

Re: My New MUTT !!
I remember looking at one that was for sale that had the rear cross member rotted very bad. If this is it I would not be driving it because the cross member is the support for the rear suspension. If it lets go you ARE going to crash. You will most likely have no warning either. not trying to throw water on your fire but I know how everyone wants to play with their new toy.

Re: My New MUTT !!
I second that. Get a large body kit and check all the body channels. The thing does not have a frame so the body integrety is very important. The pics I saw showed a lot of rot on the underside. Get her fixed then enjoy her.

Re: My New MUTT !!
Thanks for the info. I've found a company that re-produces the rear cross member - they're in Denmark. Curious, has anyone bought anything from these guys - Miltrans Military vehicle brokers. [mailto:miltrans@msn.com].
The repair piece is not a weld over, but a replacement for the rear cross member. Since it ain't cheap, and shipping ain't cheap, was wondering if something from a de-mil rear section might be a better bet?? Any thoughts?
Thanks!!
