 May have been the Dickel, making me half wrong, but that is an early accordion ratchet boot that's drawing my eye to the E brake.

Rain, seems like most of the VN mutts have the early boot on the EBrake, at least what I have seen. Miss Saigon did not even have a boot. They must have a greater supply of the early boots.

You are correct that is the early accordion type rubber boot on the e-brake, and as Clell says they are about the only type you can get here. I would like to convert it to the new type which from the TM looks like a flat sheet of rubber with slots in it. Has anyone got a photo of one they could post.

By the way I found a source of a full set of rubbers for the choke, brake fluid inlet, transfer shift, gear shift (two off), e-brake (accordion type) and a couple of other things I cannot remember, I think there was about seven rubbers in the set altogether.

Thanks for the quick response TC, I will go shopping on Friday with your picture if that is OK with you and see if I can get the cover plate and a piece of rubber to fit. I think I much prefer the older deisgn with the boots, it looks prettier. They must have been on an economy drive to make such a change.

Ken - Very interesting, information filed away for future reference. The accordion boot on my Mutt is split down the front so the problem should not occur but I guess it would be right to replace it with the correct type. I think I will just change the hand brake and leave the transfer shifter boot on it as it looks cool.

It is interesting that you should mention the brake over heating because after a short run yesterday I found the brake hand brake lever to be hot so I thought about it being over tight and loosened it off a bit. I then put the Jeep over the sloping ramp into my garage and I was surprised how much I could back it off and it would still hold me on the ramp. Granted the ramp was not very steep but enough that the jeep would run down if the brake was released.

When I set the hand brake I adjusted it according to the TM but in retrospect given the amount I could back it off I may have over done it. I will be off over Xmas so I will take the mutt out to find a nice slope and set it up on that to see if it holds OK, there is a guy nearby who has a drive up inspection ramp that would suffice.

Again thanks for the info Ken.

@John: your jeep with VN number plate, the light guard is not original for jeep in VN (Binh Duong Province, we are in Saigon) but during the war these jeeps serve in the forest that made people think to build something to protect the light....later on people think it looks nice so they keep it on...
Yes, we still have some jeep without the "grill"..it depends on the owners.
get you some photos without the grill

I have a pic (stolen from Mori  ) of a USAF M151A2 with an identical light/grill guard. It was stationed at Clark Air Base circa 1991.
I wonder how the grill ended up from Vietnam to Philippines.
The pic was taken after the volcanic eruption that damaged much of the base. I'll post it here as soon as I find my external hard drive.

That is volcanic ash and sand. Clark Air Base and our city was showered with up to 9 inches of volcanic material
(depending on wind direction) causing most roofs to collapse. I bet that mutt was parked under a roof.

I was in Yakima Wash. in May, 1980 when Mt. St. Helens blew. I can attest that volcanic ash is NO fun at all. I think I still have it in my ears!
