My first M151

Unread post by mike » June 2nd, 2012, 12:07 pm

Hi fellows!

Im new to the forum and I wanted to share some pictures of my newly bought M151A2. I live in Poland. I cound't really decide whether to get a Ford GPW or the M151. As you can see I chose the MUTT. The jeep still needs some adjustment works such as carb and distributor adjustment, new spark plugs, oil and coolant change. It fires right up when its warm. The choke operation is still a little tricky for me but I hope I will get more handy with it as I gain more experience driving the jeep. I am a Vietnam war reenactor hence the paint job for 173rd Airborne brigade. Im also planning to turn it into a cavalry troop gun jeep or a Military Police jeep so I can install my M60 MG replica (still looking for a MG mount). Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum and greetings from Germany. What kind of license plate do you have there? Is it for historic cars in Poland?

Hi Richard! Thanks for the welcome! Yes, you are right. In PL the yellow plates indicate a historic vehicle. You can have it registered with standard white plates as well but it is a lot easier to go with the yellow ones. This way you are not obliged to undergo a periodic car inspection.

Welcome to the site and like others have posted, you have a real good looking A2 there. Nice touch with the OG107s and M52 flack jacket.

Hey fellows! First off I would like to thank all of you veterans who sereved in the past and present conflicts. I see that there are some Vietnam veterans aboard (toptiger, rickf, anyone else?). Thank you for your service! Welcome home!
I appreciate all of your kind words and the warm welcome. Thanks!

As for the 151, it came to Poland from Germany in recent years. I believe it is a ex-US Army jeep. The interesting thing is that it was never fully cut in half. The only cuts it has are partial cuts of the underside in several places. The cuts have been welded and reinforced with additional sheet metal. I will try to dig out some pictures of the restoration works.

There is about 15 people in our Vietnam War reenactment group. We have 2 mutts and 1 cj3b so far. The WC51 Dodge you can see in the last picture belongs to a WW2 unit from my hometown. It was a WW2 themed parade to commemorate the 68th anniversary of the battle of Monte Cassino in which the Free Polish forces played an important role in capturing the abbey.
