she's home?

Unread post by johnfal » July 2nd, 2012, 10:17 am

On Saturday the A1 came home looking very smart in her new livery and 199BDE 2/40F marking and the hood number that Ken gave me according to her BUD number.

She was extensively rebuilt from the firewall back, mainly the floors, crossmembers and chassis. The remit was for all rusted metal to be removed which was taken literally and probably more metal than absolutely necessary was removed. The engine was fully rebuilt at a machine shop and runs a dream, ticks over so sweetly at 400rpm, hits 50mph at about half throttle with loads of ooomph in reserve, too scared to test it to its limit.

According to the guy who rebuilt it she might be the only straight A1 in Saigon, well as straight as she can be given the limited parts avaible here. My only concession to bling is the chrome doorstrip for protecting the bodywork. I guess once the guys in the Jeep club see it it wont stay the only A1 in Saigon for long.

I regret that there are no photo's as I find the whole process of resizing photographs, copying them to photobucket then copying the link to the site too time consuming. It is bad enough from my computer (which has died) but from my tablet it is a nightmare. I would be so much nicer if we could just paste them direct to the page, maybe I would be more active on the site. I will get around to it when I get my home computer back online, but that might be a while yet so for now please accept the description.

Very nice John, I have always liked the way the VN fab the side and back curtains so they can roll up and be secured at the top. Wish our's would do that. That's about as clean of a mutt as you will see in VN!

AHA! I did find some A2 on it, I will see if anyone else finds it. It is real small and insignificant. Not the mirrors since I have seen photos in country of them. The only thing out of place I can find is the gas can holder, There should not be one. he can would sit on the bumperette. Other than that it is immaculate. Nice job.
