Once a year we (a community of three motorsport clubs) have the opportunity to organize a rallye event over there: http://rallyefilme-nord.de/index.html?v ... llyeid=722

The place is a former WW2 ammunition factory of the Nazis which was not found and destroyed because of the trees on the buildings. The two coal power plants have been under the earth. You can see the entrace of one of these in picure #6. After WW2 it was used by the British Forces (they finally found it) and the US Army. The US Army also stored nuclear war heads during the cold war. Also a Dutch company used the area for producing mines and the German Army to store ammunition as well. The area was given up mid of the nineties, after the German reunion and the breakup of the Soviet Union. Today it is owned by a private company and it is no longer in use.

Till today it is a mystic place. If you will lose orientation you're lost. Be happy if you'll find a fence to find a gate to find a way out. :D

Those types pf places fascinate me, I could spend days wandering around them. Old empty buildings of any kind really but a place like that.................you wouldn't see me for days.

Rick,

That will happen - no disussion.

You'll find this on the adventure playground:

- an area of 12 square kilometers with fences and gates closed to the public
- 400 buildings, 21 belowground, 104 walled
- two power plants for water, electricity and steam, a third one for emergency (all are no longer existing)
- 124 miles of cable for light and power
- bunkers with a total capacity of 30,000 tons of coal
- 70 water wells, two pump stations with a capacity of max 2,500 cubic meter per hour
- 52 miles road network
- 26 miles with tracks for trains (two steam trains, two diesel trains and eighty (!) electric trolleys)
