Jeep Week - Ocean City, MD, USA

Jeep Week would not have been complete without at least an HMV or two attending. Festivities kicked off with a Meet and Greet/Welcome Party at Seacrets in Ocean City. It was refreshing to see a couple of old coots (Mutt and Willys CJV35U) mixing it up with the younger muscle jeep set.

This CJV35U is a rare bird, indeed, with only 1000 built by Willys for the Navy in 1950. The USMC had exclusive-use during the Korean War.

Funny story..... An older military vet attending the party saw the Navy Shore Patrol and Marine Corp Jeeps out front and remarked that "it MUST be a rockin' party if the Shore Patrol with Marine backup is already on the scene"!!!!! I think he was reliving his former military days......

Image
The Show & Shine event at the local Jeep dealership on Saturday morning started with moderate rain but the Mutt was offered center position under roof to keep it dry, much to my appreciation.

The skies finally cleared and the open-air display of several hundred jeeps of all types was awesome, some from as far away as Canada. We had lots of fun..... and enjoyed fielding questions on our historic rigs and for some of the younger guys, their first close-up look at a Mutt...........

Great post Joe, is this an annual event? Same time every year? Might try to make it one year, not so far away from VB. :)

Clell..... Yes, this is an annual event but it was cancelled last year when Hurricane Irene prompted total evacuation of Ocean City (several hundred thousand visitors were forced to leave). Sad sight..... no people and no jeeps!!!!

Here's the event website: http://www.oceancityjeepweek.com/

Come join us next year..... a fun time is guaranteed!!!!

Registration for Jeep Week was FREE and the venue was crowded with all kinds of Jeep related activities..... if you chose to participate. We did the Meet & Greet at Seacrets Night Club (very cool affair) and the Show & Shine at a local Jeep dealership (it rained...... and so the event became a Show (and let's try to keep dry) kind of day. The CJV35U I was with didn't make it to the show because of the rain. We fully expected to drive but didn't want to arrive like two drowned rats with only summer style roofs for protection. So we trailered the Mutt to the show and I was the only military jeep there. The Mutt generated lots of comments.... suspension, body style, military service, etc. and a lot of people got their first close-up look at the beast.

I was clearly outnumbered and felt honored that the Mutt was displayed along side some very high-end Jeeps. These rigs were awesome!!! So, Clell & Jim, think about joining in the fun next year with your Mutts. All are welcome!!!
