Re: M151A1 - opinions please
Personally, I like it. Appears to be an A1 job.
Re: M151A1 - opinions please
Looks awesome! Nicely done. If your looking for a critique the only thing I see is a couple of paint touch ups in the engine compartment and around the instrument panel. You did an excellent job and I can tell how much work you have put into it. Well done!

Thank you very much, but I must admit that all credit should go to the previous owner who actually did the work.

Great looking A1, though the hood is an early one and I'd be careful with the turn signal wires going to the turn signals. The early M151 hood did not have dimples or raises for the turn signal wires to pass through. Plus the hood is a pretty hard to come by part for early M151 restorers. Might want to trade it off to one of us.

Re: M151A1 - opinions please
Looks awsome . Here's what I've noticed;
Windshield is from either an M151 or an early M151A1 as it is missing the small metal brackets above the windshield glass that support the frame when it is laid flat on the hood.
Parking brake handle is also early M151 and the dash lights should be painted the same color as the truck with maybe one read lense-but I'm not 100% on that.
M151 (early M151A1?) screw adjustable front seat frames. Those are actually quite rare.
Top has a seam running down the center of it and the rear window is incorrect in it's size (for a late top) . The correct top for an M151A1 (Vietnam era) should have two different sized windows in the rear panel.
Two side view mirrors. Standard would have been one on the driver's side but adding one to the passenger's side was a common mod (did it on mine ).
Tow safety chain plate is missing. It was sandwhiched between the towing pintle hook and the jeep's rear body panel. I assume that rectangular bracket below the tow hook is for a license plate?
Mechanical fuel pump in the engine compartment (maybe beacuse the power pack was originally out of an M151A2?). A1s used an electrical fuel pump mounted in the fuel tank.
My personal thoughts on your mutt is this: I think it is one of the nicer M151A1s I've seen and would be proud to own such a beasty > Most of what's been pointed out isn't major and can either be fixed along the way (if you're going to compete in MV shows) or left alone and the jeep simply enjoyed. My advice if you're going to pull an M416 around with your A1 get that safety chain bracket. If none of the dealers 'State side will send you one PM me.

Re: M151A1 - opinions please
Thanks a lot.
I had noticed the missing bracket too and I have access to one here.
I was told that the top is either Spanish or Portugese?
The seat cushions were at some stage replaced by either copies or foreign stock too.
With regards to the fuel pump...I have had to replace the fuel tank and I can assure that it holds an electrical pump and that it works ( it makes that distinguishing ticking noise ). As I am not much of a mecanic myself, I am not sure about that other pump.
Anyway, keep the thoughts coming, since I would like to have it as close to an original as possible. The idea is to include it in a diorama to portray an 82nd ABN unit deployed to the Dominican Republic in 1965/66.
I intend to remove the radio mount and antenna base in order to replace them by the older type VRC.

Re: M151A1 - opinions please
Snoopy,
there are some early parts on the vehicle that I can see:-
- early three-ribbed hood;
- early windshield;
- early handbrake lever;
- Holley carb.
- early turn switch (is it connected to a distribution box?)
Additionally, I could not see a "BUDD" tag on the firewall which should be there if it really is a "2K-" series vehicle. Is there any sign of the Budd plate having been removed?
and ps... the M151 and M151A1 should not have the chainplate installed behind the tow-hook. The trailer hooks up to the shackles under the rear bumperettes.
A very nice-looking A1.

Re: M151A1 - opinions please
So the M151A1 did not have the chain plate? My bad! I thought the later A1s got them as well as all M151A2s. My A1 IIRC, didn't have that plate but like Snoopy's mutt, was a mix of straight M151 and M151A1 parts.muttguru wrote: and ps... the M151 and M151A1 should not have the chainplate installed behind the tow-hook. i think it looks really nice---now your job is to drive it and enjoy it, don't let it sit and collect dust.

Hi Matt,
when the A2 was introduced, the shackles under the bumperettes were dispensed with. The shackles on the rear corners of the A2 were too far distant for the trailer chains to reach properly and that's why the A2 had the chain-plate added. Like several of the A2 safety features, earlier models were authorised to adopt the features if required, so that's probably why some A1s had the plate fitted retrospectively.

I would also add that the reflectors were not added back on after the rebuild. Kevin.

Was that done only on "Army" mutts? The reason why I ask is that my late M151A2 which was used by the USMC has those shackles under the rear bumperettes. I added the chain plate as that was missing -or I thought it was supposed to be there......

Re: M151A1 - opinions please
The one thing that pops out is the large font size used on the dash for tire pressures. Otherwise that is a nice jeep located in one of the nicest parts of the world.
