Encore

Unread post by Vzike » May 9th, 2014, 10:00 am

I've read a number of questions on the Encore. Since I have one, I'm more than happy to share any information I have on mine. I saw one post that someone on eBay listed it as an A2, but did not identify it as an Encore.

Mine has a tailgate. That seems to be the biggest flag, that shows it is not an M151 body. It's hinged on the passenger side, and has the spare mounted on it. There are a number of things that are very different. The front fenders are flat, and there are no stiffing ribs on it, anywhere. The body is a heavier gauge steel than the A2.

There are a number of differences in the framing. They used rectangular tube and the welding is much better than the A2.

The hood is fiberglass

Mine has the A2 rear suspension and mostly A2 parts, including electronic ignition. I've hear others say they have the A1 rear suspension.

It has an excellent paint, which after 16 years is holding up really well. Mine is bright red, and will stay that way, as to not let it be confused with a real body. I've seen them in the black and in a blue/green (teal), but so far, have not seen one in camo or military green.

The only real rust issues I have are one spot between the windshield frame and the body, and everywhere they drilled it to put in the rops.

If any of you would like to see photos of any specific parts, just drop me a note and I'll post them. The same with any questions.

Thanks for the info, how about posting photos on the site so everyone can benefit? There are always a lot of questions and comments about Encore's and it would be nice to see some good photos of an original one!

More pics of my Encore

You'll notice that the hood is fiberglass. The tub seems to be a heavier gauge steel than the real A2 tub.

Let me know if you want to see any other parts of it.

OK.... I live on a barrier island in south Florida (East Coast). We get a pretty steady breeze off the ocean, which is nice for the heat and bugs, but one thing is becoming crystal clear..... That breeze has salt spray in it!!! The encore is already showing signs of rust. I bought it from a guy in the center of the state (La Belle).... no salt. Here it is affecting the underside, all hidden parts, like the inside parts of the brake handle, and the paint.

Once I finish my M151 A2 resto, I'm going to have to do some work on this.

On a bright note, I just drove it 250 miles to Key West and back over the four day weekend. Ran great.

I really like the look of your "jeep". I'd love to build one on a tube frame and use CMD body panels. Need to finish my current project first!

That is a nice looking jeep and would be great as a driver or fun machine as you are using it. I remember seeing it for sale a few years ago at the dealer and thought it was a fair buy. Thanks for the pics.

ok, this is, at least the first time for me, I see Guy talking about a complete jeep. I was kind of waiting for this to happen, simply at what point in time does he have made enough different body parts for a complete vehicle...

HELP!!!

I've gone through three headlights this week. The low beam is burning out. I change the light (double and triple checking the connections), and a couple days later, the low beam is blown out.

Any suggestions?

you can't kill it by connecting it wrong. The only way to kill it is over-voltage. Take a voltmeter and check what voltage you have across the terminals. It too high would however also cook your battery.

I am assuming you still have a 24V system.

You could have a loose connection causing the light to flicker on and off, this should not really cause it to blow out that quick but they are 30 year old lights in some cases.
