New trailers for Restoration

Postby Redlight » September 26th, 2017, 7:03 pm

I was I think very lucky with the latest GSA auctions for military trilers. I won a M100 Trailer in Connecticut and a M416 in Maine. Please see the before pictures below:

I have had some good luck restoring other 1/4 ton trailers before;

And after

I will be working on these trailers in the fall and now that I think I can post, I will update all with progress notes.
The M100 is Strata Blue under the forest service paint.
Thanks for looking

The M100 has really been Bubbufied. The first 416 appears to just be the hitch and the second looks stock. Unfortunately that 100 is not worth much in that condition.

Trailer identification;
Both trailers are now home and before I focused on one I attempted to look for identification marking on both.
The M416 had a data plate and marking from US ARMY service.

By looking at all of the markings, I was able to trace all of the letters and numbers. This is the first data plate where the reg number was stamped.
I have placed this unit into store for now. When I get back to it, i will try and remove all the paint from the plate using very fine sandpaper. Or would a chemical stripper work better?
Thanks for viewing. More to come with the M-100 soon.

M-100 Pictures:
I have put aside the M416 for now and i am cleaning up the M100.

I did remove the old paint with a disk sander and give one side some rattle can paint that I had in the garage.Image
What color should a M100 have as a final coat/ The same as a M416?
Thanks

Story on selling the first trailer.
I advertised the trailer on Craigslist in Boston Ma with an Craigslist email and text /phone reply. Within minutes, i started to receive texts about the trailer. Some said that they were in the service deployed overseas and wanted to buy now and have some on pick it up for them. One sounded legit so I sent him my home address. He then turned around and said to me, that he will send me extra money and I could pay the shipper. (RED FLAG) I told him no and that I will only deal in Cash and that he could exchange Cash for the trailer at the local police department. Time passed and then I received a text that he(Steven Varghese) is sending me a check by UPS with a tracking number. I said "Do not bother". Today, Monday, I received a post office priority mail envelope with a check (RED FLAG 2). The check was on a bank in North Carolina not from California per the mailing address. (RED FLAG 3) It was not a cashiers check anyway. I went on line and determined that the bank has been bought out and has a new name. (RED FLAG 4). The check was drawn on a real estate trust and not Steven. (RED FLAG 5). I called the bank and found out the account numbers and the routing numbers were invalid and wrong (RED FLAG 6). I will post the check on my garage wall to remind me on the scams out there.

Good News_ I sold the trailer locally for cash. The price was good for me and the buyer.

Good detective work. That is why I have so much stuff laying around, I HATE craigslist and the a**holes that come with it. I have bought a lot of good stuff on there including my enclosed trailer which I got for about half what it is worth but still, like you, I have gotten all kinds of scams. Even when they do show up half of then then try to talk you down on the price. A little haggling is fine but they always want half off. I put up with that for five minute and then ask them to leave. That is when they offer full price and I tell them it is no longer for sale. A**HOLES!

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today!

Last name shows in second pic... not sure if you meant to do that since it's blacked out in the first.

Thanks for the feedback. I could not see my own name on the phone picture. i should of blacked it out. Now everyone knows my alias.
It was amazing to me how many people responded with the same kind of scam. They must have been reading from the same book. Many told me to remove my listing, Almost all were willing to pay more then the asking price.
I am not sure listing anywhere else would not have the same response other then on this site.
Now to work on the next trailer.
Thanks

None of the sale sites are immune to the scammers. They just hover and wait.

Lots of McAda's and McBryde's in the branches of my family tree.

I have yet to see a Hatfield on the site but you never know.
