M151 rims on a M416B1

Unread post by jumpbootz » June 23rd, 2011, 3:39 pm

I want to use M151 rims on my M416B1.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the hub assemblies on the M416 and the M416B1? TM 9-2330-251-14, dated 6 October 1970 covers the M416B1 but does not go into any real detail on the differences. Comparing the two rims, the bolt pattern is the same and notwithstanding the difference in tire size (7.00x16 vs. 6.00x16), the only other difference I can see is the diameter of the inner rim and the offset.

Am I correct in assuming the only difference lies in the hubs? Is there a better TM for the M416B1 (20/30 level)?

The intent is to allow both vehicle and trailer to utilize the same spare tire.

Cheers!

john

I'll trade you a restored m416 for the b1 you have. Need one for the mite. That way, you can use use the same spare as the mutt

Austringer,

Thank you for your generous offer. Although I am partial to the M416B1, it would not be prudent to reject without having first given it consideration.

Used and maintained regularly, the M416B1 is in fair/un-restored condition. Other than paint and repairs to the wiring, there are no deviations from the original configuration. Restoration considerations are (but not limited to)-
-Wiring harness is piecemeal; fully operational, but not original.
-Missing B/O stoplight and bracket
-Some rust-through in the bed and on the fenders. The rust is controlled, but NOT repaired OR covered up.
-The handbrake bracket has been welded to the frame. Not sure why, it works fine and there is no apparent damage to the chassis. Only thing I can figure is some Marine lost the bolts, couldn't get 100mph tape to stick, couldn't make 550 cord work and ran out of privates to ride on the trailer and hold the assembly in their hands.
-Tires have dry rot, one is a recap, and both have a slow leak. They work fine for local use but I wouldn't trust them on a long trip.
-Data plates are oxidized
-Reflectors are oxidized

It goes without saying that the Marine Corps usually does not release equipment until it is reduced it to scrap. Well, for whatever reason this one was spared. I got it to go with an uncut USMC M151A1 that came out of Guam. The A1 was in poor condition so it got mustered out and we kept the trailer to use with our A2.
