Bantam TC-3 trailer 1947

Unread post by Ralph Fuller » July 10th, 2011, 7:33 am

I bought a 1947 Bantam TC-3 trailer. This is the civilian version with a tail-gate (won't float). Has pintle hitch and military tail-lights. No hand brake.

WOW! Is that original or has it been restored? I know restored Bantem's are bringing big bucks.

A buddy bought a restored Jeep that went with this trailer. There is only one coat of paint on this trailer. Somebody spent a lot of time and effort. The wood is in great shape, and this is the first military vehicle I didn't have to do anything to. There is no rust nor dings. I plan on changing the wiring to 24 volt and adding red reflectors to the rear/sides. I towed it at 65 mph without any problems.

I have the same trailer except that mine has a 1 7/8' ball hitch. I toyed with the idea of getting a new rear panel to replace the tailgate (that I paid good money to have repaired.) and then trying to find a lunette to replace the ball hitch so I could turn it into an M100. In the end I decided to keep it as it was. I'll post some pics. Nice find.

Bought 2 yards, 60" wide canvas for $9 and four grommet kits to make a bikini top. I wanted to be able to see behind me when I was backing up. Added red reflectors on the sides at the rear. They were less than $2 at Wal-Mart.

I didn't realize that canvas was that reasonable. BTW did yours come with the lunette ring?

Thanks, TopTiger
Platoon Boss: I used a 40% off coupon from Hancock's Fabrics to get the $9 price on the canvas.
