M416 with tailgate?
does anyone know about a trailer that looks like a 416 in the pics, but has a tailgate? same square type fenders, but data plate is missing.

Re: M416 with tailgate?
i don't have any pics, i only saw them on an ad, and never have figured out how to post my own pics, let alone how to transfer any.
Re: M416 with tailgate?
Is it possiable to post a link to the add? M416s were designed to be amphibious* and a tail gate would ruin that. Wonder if it was something that someone made up/modified later on?199th mp wrote:i don't have any pics, i only saw them on an ad, and never have figured out how to post my own pics, let alone how to transfer any.
* I know the earlier jeep trailers MBT & M100 were designed to float and I'm not sure what the logic behind this was. After all, if your towing vehicle has to ford the water obstical does one really want their traier floating along (above and) behind you?

Re: M416 with tailgate?
Never seen an M416-series trailer with a tailgate. There may have been a civvie version but if there was, I never took much notice of it.199th mp wrote:does anyone know about a trailer that looks like a 416 in the pics, but has a tailgate? same square type fenders, but data plate is missing.
The M101-series 3/4-Ton trailer has a gate, but that's a fair amount bigger than the M416.
What you are probably thinking about is the Mitsubishi version of the M416. This does have a tailgate.

Re: M416 with tailgate?
the post war bantam trailer (civilian) resembled the m100/m416 trailer and had a tailgate.

Re: M416 with tailgate?
got the close up pics a little while ago, and it is clear that the tailgate is a homemade cut in affair, using gate hinges. rest of the tub, on close inspection of the pics supplied, show that a LOT of work will be required. i shall keep on looking, as time is not an issue.
Re: M416 with tailgate?
Wasn't there a Canadian version that had a gate or am I think of the 101?

there is a Canadian 1/4-ton trailer which is the M101CDN but it doesn't have a tailgate. If I can find the Mitsubishi military trailer pic, I'll post it here.

Re: M416 with tailgate?
I knew the Canadian trailers didn't have tail gates as I saw one in action a couple of years ago. I watched a (modern) civilian jeep towing one, ford a rather deep(& fast moving) river. The jeep almost got pulled over by the current hitting the then floating, loaded trailer and moving it to one side...muttguru wrote:

actually, I did take a little bit of notice of it. The one I was told about was the Sierra Trailers civilian version of the M416 and as you can see, it has a tailgate.

Re: M416 with tailgate?
I have seen several M416 trailers with a tailgate. All were identical. Each had a tailgate installed, a hole (about 8-10 inches tall and about 10 inches wide) on the passenger side rear side panel. I think there was another hole cut up front somewhere. Each one I saw had an additional data-tag that says "generator trailer " or some such wording.
I know where one is parked right now. I wanted it so bad I couldn't see straight, just because it was so rare. It's in my area where I patrol. I was talking about it with one of my team-mates, and he tells me the owner happens to be his brother! When I finally chased down the owner, I learned there was a fly in the ointment. I wrote the owner's wife a speeding ticket a few months ago, so buying it aint' gonna' happen after they learned who wanted it!
So, they do exist, but I think they were all done on a depot level. About three years ago, a guy brought three identical ones to the Idaho club's show in Fruitland.
