Shipping a M416

Unread post by Jay Mallari » July 26th, 2012, 8:53 am

I'm looking to buy a restorable m416 here in the UK, to ship to the Philippines.
Freight cost will depend on the amount of space the trailer will occupy in the
shipping container. My question is, if you remove the wheels/tyres,fenders, axles, leaf springs
draw bar/A-frame, lunette, casting, landing leg etc, and put them all in the tub to save on space,
will they all fit? Also what is the the dimension of the tub?

Thanks in advance,
Jay

I just brought my M416 home last night. I'm almost positive all of the bolted on components will fit inside the tub. If you need anything measured, let me know.

Thanks Jim and Matt for your reply.
Matt if ever you are going to disassemble your trailer for restoration,
have a go and see if everything will fit in the tub and don't forget to photograph it
as proof  :)

Jay: Have a look at Dan's old thread. Maybe it'll help. As long as you keep the frame attached everything and then some will fit in back. My guess.

Why not just buy one in the PI?

It's actually this thread which gave me the idea in the first place that it could be done.

Had been looking for many years now. There seems to be more of the WW2 trailers than M416's.
I've come across a couple, but the owners are not selling.

Try the g503. There is a jeep club in Manila. I've seen several 151s over there. There was a thread about a year ago about a place that did restorations \repairs and I believe they had some trailers. I'd check around subic and clark.

I have a link to a PI site that's like craiglist. Ill post it when I get home.

Hi Steve. I've been regularly checking that website including sulit.com.
I live near Clark and have also been in contact with the jeep clubs thru my
mechanic. Most of the trailers over there have had a hard life and extensively modified
to haul rice grain and fertilizers. Some M416's I was told are just rusting in army bases :(

Let me ask my brother in law. He's in the army over there.

Ok, my wife will ask her brother next time they chat. What price range should they look for?
