Wanted - M101A3 Style Landing Leg

Unread post by mrdibbles » December 16th, 2012, 3:37 pm

Hey Guys-
Does anyone have a line on a M101A3 style landing leg (front)? These trailers are awesome but the A2 style landing leg is a real back breaker (when hooking and unhooking alone). I'm also looking for a complete rear leg assembly but my first priority is the front adjustable style leg (with crank handle).
Thanks,
Matt-

Niagara Military Parts

86 Dover Rd, Welland, ON L3B 2V2
905-732-9492

This guy has them, he's in Canada though. He has a whole line of parts for our M101 trailers including tarps, but he's kinda pricey. No website, use snail mail or phone to contact....

Hey Guys-
I found the M101A3 leg assembly and got a good deal on it (used through Ebay for $85). Sadly it's missing the crank handle. If anyone has an extra please let me know. Otherwise I'll be checking with that fella up in the great white north.

Update...

I called Niagara Military Parts and spoke with Ralph. He mentioned that the best number to reach him on was actually (905)-732-4122. I asked him about the US-style M101A3 landing gear assemblies (that crank up and down) and he said he didn't carry those (nor did he have just a spare handle). He does have the Canadian-style M101-series landing gear assemblies though, that sound to be much more like a civilian-style landing gear (that's adjustable), that could be a suitable option. He has those for $30/ea. and they are green painted government contract.

Otherwise I asked him about NOS tarps/covers for the M101-series trailers and he does have those (at $325/ea.) and he also has the complete rear mounted adjustable stabilizer leg assemblies (complete with mounting bracket). Beltfed on Ebay often has these without the mounting bracket priced around $35/ea. Ralph at Niagara sells the NOS complete assembly for $70. For camping, driving an ATV up into the bed, or just storing the trailer with a load in the back, I could see how having a stabilizer leg would be a good (possibly necessary) addition.

Anyway I thought Ralph was helpful and easy to converse with... I'll probably be placing an order for the rear stabilizer leg assembly and will for sure keep his number for other parts inquires. Thanks Moose for providing his contact information.

Are you sure it's not the 1/4 ton trailer he's talking about?

The canadian M101 trailer is the same as our m416, with the exception of having different tiedowns for the cargo. They also used the american m101 trailers up there which is why Ralph also had parts for those. Last year he had the m101a3 crank down legs but he wanted i think 75.00 for them.

I think there is some confusion on the 101 designation. I am confused. I have seen older 101's with the old Dodge 5/4 ton five bolt wheels and the later 101's which are the same as the 116 and are even labeled on the frame as a 116 but the body is a 101AX, X being 1, 2 or 3. I have seen pictures of 101 Canadian trailers that have the same bolt pattern as a 416. I am thinking that just maybe the 101 Canadian is a breed of it's own. Import only deal. The Americans never speced out a tailgate on any of their smaller trailers that I know of.

Ralph (@ Niagara) was clear when he was saying "you are talkling about the 3/4 tons". He was even asking about which bolt pattern my wheels were in (A1, A2, or A3). I'm very sure he understands the differences.

US M101 trailers were made to use the wheels of the intended prime mover. M101A1 = m37(?), M101A2 = M1008 CUCV, and M101A3 = HMMWV. The M116 trailer was a flat bed tralier built on the M101 frame. A lot of the M116s were converted or purpose built as cargo trailers.

The only diference is the wheels and the A3 cargo bed on the A3 is wider between the inner wheel wells.

This is my understanding.

Does that mean the straight 101 would have been mated to a M-151? Sort of does not make sense since it does not fall into the timeline correctly. The M37 would be first and that is an A1. Now if the M37 was the straight 101, and the M151 was the 101A1, that would make sense because my 116's are A2's as is Mr. D.'s 101A2. That would make the Hummer the A3.
OK, Now I have a headache, It is too early to apply brain power.
