M416 Chassy Measurement

Unread post by Deserttmutt » June 8th, 2015, 11:18 am

guys,
good day! it's been quite sometime now since my last post...... :D assisting a colleague of mine and Jay in restoring a newly acquire m416 trailer. him and Jay acquire their trailers within weeks apart. just read that Jay is already sourcing-out some parts that he needed. already talk to him regarding some hard to acquire parts locally but couldn't assist on such measurements. as for our friend, we need some measurements so we can finalize the location of the leafspring hanger on the chassy since it was wrongly repaired by the previous owner by installing a different length (33-1/2") leafspring: if you may, we would like to ask for the exact distance/measurements between the center to center hole distance/length of the FRONT and REAR LEAFSPRING HANGER and the length of the DRAW BARS. would also like to confirm if the un-installed leafspring specification (36-1/4" center to center distance x 1-3/4" wide x 9/16" pivot bolt x 10 leaves) base on our researched is correct for the trailer :?:

Hi Deserttmutt, I should be able to get you the hanger specs you ask for since I still do not have the body on mine. The drawbar will not be an issue either. I cannot get these measurements until tomorrow evening though due to work and a side job tomorrow. I can get you the width and number of leaves in the springs but mine are mounted so I cannot help with the unloaded measurement. I can measure what they are on there which is probably the same as unloaded since there is nothing on them but the bare frame.

Sorry for the delay, had to quote a side job and got tied up. The center to center measurements I have are the spring with nothing but the trailer frame on it is 35 5/8".
The Drawbar from back to just inside the front outer edge is 40" and the hangers are 35".
The drawbar is square cut at the back closer to the axle and cut on an angle in the front so it is straight across on top, parallel to the rest of the frame. Since everything is installed on mine I made the measurements from grease nipple to grease nipple. That will be as close to center as you will ever get.

In Dan's third and last pictures you can see what I was talking about with the forward ends of the drawbars cut on an angle.
