My 416

Re: My 416
Doesn't look rough to me! There aren't a lot of M416 trailers out there, I probably see more M151s for sale than 1/4 ton trailers.
I use mine all the time both around town and an hour down the interstate. A tailgate would have been the only improvement the GOV could have made to these trailers. And maybe a set of bows and cargo cover like the M101 series had.

Hard to keep seals tight. The idea of no tail gate is so it will float behind the vehicle when fording. It would be a shame to see another 416 ruined by someone cutting a tail gate in it.
Re: My 416
I agree, that is an exceptionally straight 416. It would be a damn shame to cut it when there are hundreds of already cut ones out there or ones on much worse shape to cut. You could sell that one for good money and buy a beat up one if you want to cut it up. Never fully understood that way of thinking anyway. Why cut a tailgate into such a small trailer when you can go to the junkyard and get the rear end of a pickup and have better weight capacity, more interior room, already has a tail gate and has standard wheels and tires. All you have to do is notch the frame and pull it together and bolt in or weld in a hitch. If you can cut in a gate you cane build a pick up trailer.

Re: My 416
I always wondered why the didn't have tailgates. Now I know. Just because I said I would like to put tailgate on it doesn't mean it will happen. I have other trailers but they are bigger and I'm not sure how they would pull behind the MUTT.
Re: My 416
The problem with most M416 that have tailgates cut in is the trailer tub looses all structural integrity when the back is opened up. I've seen some real hack jobs on welding in gussets in the corners or extra bracing, but it all results in a poor job.

There is no data plate, where would I find the serial number to get it tagged?

Sometimes they're stamped on the frame rail near the pintle. My M762 was stamped there.
