Cable Harness Question

Unread post by richard » April 17th, 2016, 7:24 pm

This is a little bit more related to my M561 where they used many housings for the cables of the different cable harness. But these cable connectirs are also used in our M151 so I hope to get an idea from a greater M151 family before going to Steel Soldiers.

Is there any tool or repair kit available for the cable harness? I mean the side where the pins / connectors are screwed and not simply plugged together. I am talking about item 5, 6 and 7. To repair the other side is no problem, because the items 2, 3 and 4 are available. I also see no chance to get the pin (item #6) out of the bushing (item #7). It just sits there after it has been inserted there in the last century. I have to repair just one cable of the cable harness. And I cannot find part of the cable harness I need.

What you are looking for is called a 'pin insertion/extraction' tool. New connectors usually come with a plastic tool for that particular pin size. They can usually be purchased from a commercial connector supplier and are relatively inexpensive.

The pins and wires are normally crimped but can be soldered together. If soldering be sure to clean the wire/pin connection with isopropyl alcohol prior to insertion into the connector body. The pins are inserted and removed from the wire side of the connector.

These will give you an idea as to what to look for:

Some people are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

Sometimes the NATO can be good for our historical hobby with MVs.

I found a new connector and socket from a seller in Germany. NATO and German Army standard. Why not US Army standard? Yes, also the diameter of the holes to mount the socket is the same as the old one. Everything fits. :D

Here is the source if other MV owners across Europe are having the same problem in getting a new socket or connector.

And I found the problem for my missing turn signal and brake light at the rear of my Gama Goat. The cable inside of the connector was broken. Broken directly at the pin and somewhere in the cable. So I changed the cable as well.
