I think the confusion arises from the alternator's data plate which calls it a generator.

Technically it does generate electricity so therefor it is a generator. I remember during the transition from generators to alternators it was always confusing because old school ways dictate it should be called a generator no matter what. That also means all of the military manuals would have to be rewritten to explain the difference between the two which really does not matter to the average GI.

This document is a definitive statement about maintenance of generators and alternators for military vehicles. It is very useful for maintenance and clearly shows the use of the terms.

Hopefully others find it as useful as I do.

Is that the DA Pamphlet 75? Says I need permission to view it. If it is then it is very informative. You do have to figure out how to convert to using modern tools over the military specific tools though.

Yes it is. I will check on the access - thanks for letting me know Rick.

This should work https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VV7CH6 ... sp=sharing if it does now can someone let me know and I will investigate further. Actually it should probably be in the manuals section - how do I get it there?

Technically I am supposed to be able to put stuff like that in there but I have not been successful yet.

Ah, a talking engine  . Don't believe everything an engine tells you... I call my Landrover Defender a car but the cleaner at McDonalds the other day called it a TRUCK :( If it is 60Amp it is an alternator.

Thanks Ken, I have it but I am looking to get it in the manuals on the site. Been too busy lately and now in hurricane prep mode plus getting ready for the Gilbert show. Thongs should slow down a bit after that.

Point is, it is still a Defender no matter what individuals care to call it...
