I'm thinking of adding a radio setup to my A-2. What will I need and how expensive is it?

there are a few different ways you can go, but one of the simplest would be to add the RT-524. You need the radio, its mounting bracket, sponson plate to mount the bracket to the fender of your jeep, antenna mounting bracket, antenna base and whip, and cables for power, antenna rf, and antenna control. How much depends on working or not, pretty or crappy looking etc. You can figure on $300-700 for the RT, $20 for the mount, maybe $30 for the sponson plate, about $35 for the antenna mount, about $100 for a complete functional antenna, maybe another$10-30 for the cables. If you dont care if it actually works, you can probably spend half that for demilled radios and antenna. When you decide what you'd like to do, I can give you the numbers for the parts you'd need.

I agree with Moose on the prices, if your at a meet and not on ebay.

Looks like HTN did an almost "by the book" install. He may have $30
worth of stickers on there from the looks of it. For a proper install, I
need a correct sponson and support bracket. Other than that I'm 100%.
Oh yeah, and stickers like HTN.

My sources tell me that the Tadiran made 524's are higher quality radios
with less long term problems. Mine works, but I have no real need for it.
Tadirans are from Isreal and are of more recent manufacture. Dan1 had
a bunch of the whip antennas last year cheap, but no MX-6707's at that
time. Even boat anchor radios bring $200 to $300 on good ole ebay.

I should have said, "HTN, nicest radio installation I've seen in a long time"
Were you really going for perfect?

HTN.

If you want to do it by the book, you dont need an extension cord, you need the remote head, which allowed a dash speaker and remote radio operation from the front seat.
