Capota de vinilo nueva "despellejada"

Unread post by rupert's » January 11th, 2021, 3:02 pm

Hello again guys! I'm here! once again in search of your wisdom ...

Yesterday I was installing the new vinyl hood on the mutt ... When I took it out of the box I could see that it was stuck in some areas and had stains from having been glued.
I put it in hot water with the intention that it would come off without damaging it but I don't know if it helped because it has some areas with many scabs.

Do you know if it has a solution? it's a shame the new top looks like this. Greetings to all

I have seen the white powder but I have never seen that, It looks like some sort of coating that was applied to the vinyl and is now coming off. You can pick a corner and try some WD-40 on a rag and see if it removes the coating. Beyond that I don't have any other ideas.

Same as Rick stated, mine had the white powder. I used dish washing soap and a sponge with warm water. Maybe give that a try.

Mine had that...just not to that degree. The 'stuff' appeared to be a clear seal coat for the stitching.

As we have seen and discussed many times...there is still a lot off stuff out there that was probably refused by the inspectors and it is being sold as NOS. Kind of hard to lay too much blame upon the sellers since they aren't necessarily breaking open each individual package to examine the items.

Mine finally started coming off the vinyl after several hot summers. So, the magic bullet may be heat.

Cheers,
TJ

Mine has it too...and a lot of elbow grease has already been used trying to get it off. However, I haven't tried the WD-40 option yet. I'd like to get that stuff off before the winter rally here in Florida.

I tried with a hair dryer and ... well, it peels a bit but, I think doing it all would be very heavy and it wouldn't look completely right, with the heat gun I'm afraid of breaking the hood so you've removed it @ m3a1? maybe very carefully ...
With very hot water and rubbing it also removes a little, with wd40 I forgot to try it, I'll try it another day and I'll tell you how ...

The contact cleaner is pretty volatile, I would be afraid that might damage the vinyl.

Interesting, expensive but if it works. Was that for the powder or this stuff that Rupert has?

Rainx, I Google it and I get a glass cleaner and water repellent ... Is this the product?

Guy
Thanks Ipcoating!
Today I have this problem out of the way, I have cleaned with soap and water and also with wd40, the white powder removes well but the transparent layer is still there, I have not spent much time on it because I have other mechanical things that concern me more.

I have not tried contact cleaner because it is similar to a solvent and I am afraid of damaging the vinyl ...
For now I will only clean the white powder, later I will surely use Rainx or some other product that can leave the hood in its normal state ...

If I get a solution I will keep you posted! Greetings to all
